“Ragnorak” – The MOBA (very, very, very pre-dev.)

ART OF GAME DESIGN
“Revised Rulebook”
 For Ragnorak, a rulebook is not something that really exists in the game.
Every player can play the game in whatever way they see fit, however the
game is intended to have a specific kind of character to roam a specific
lane (there are 3 in total, not including the Rift that lies between them).
Each team has 4 team members in total, one person dedicated to lanes 1-
3 as well as one dedicated to “roam the Rift”, typically referred to as
Riftwalkers.
 Ragnorak is a game that doesn’t requires a necessary application of
playing style in order to be played as the choices in which each character
performs is entirely up to the person behind the keyboard and mouse.
Flowchart – Demonstrating Core Gameplay
Explaining the Prior Flowchart
 The flowchart that I used for my game remained as the
same flowchart that I intended to use throughout the
production of my game – I followed the same motives
that I had initially hoped to have followed.
 I worked on the game through a program called “UDK”,
given a “Starter Kit” for MOBA creation – I expanded
upon this by reskinning most of the game as well as
adjusting the names and everything else surrounding the
game.
Visualizations of the Game
Visualizations (cont’d)
Ragnorak in Action
 First off, just note that this game is very pre-development and not all names or
visuals stand as they would post-development. I’m not sure if I’m planning on
continuing with improving this video game and turning it into something, but it’s
definitely a possibility.
 Below is an image of my younger brother trying the game out for the first time
(he’s not the biggest fan of video games).
Description of the Game
 Ragnorak is close to your average MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). As it
currently doesn’t have a story created for the players to interact with, it’s based
primarily off of competitive play. Each character has its own story that relates primarily
to the role that they play in the game. On the next slide, you can find two particular
characters that serve the primary role in the game and a description of who they are.
 The overall objective for each “match” played in the game is for one team to destroy
the opposing team’s CORE. Although it’s a seemingly-difficult task from the beginning,
playing strategically alongside your team will lead you to victory.
 A prime strategy of the game is to play against what you’re intended to face on your
opposing team (which, at the time is held by a remote AI player). By seeing the
different potential team match ups, the possibility for ways to win a game is truly
endless.
Character 1 - Etika
Bio:
Etika is known for his brutality and strength that he brings to
the battlefield - he may look completely human and as if he
doesn't bare a thousand burn marks from his earlier life, but
he's a spirit. He died when trying to rescue his sister and the
rest of his fellow townspeople when his village was set afire
by smugglers. To this very day, Etika still fights on with his
sword-set-ablaze to protect those that he loves, and those
who can't really protect themselves. Etika is the Blazing
Swordsman, and he's well known for being a character to
roam Lane 1.
Character 2 - Rahieral
Bio:
Rahieral is well-known for being the sister of Etika, the
Blazing Swordsman. Rahieral survived the village fire that
Etika did not, and she claimed her revenge on the smugglers
that started the incident. She's well-known for also avenging
her brother's death, although he still fights for her to this day,
not knowing that she lives on. Rahieral is advanced with the
use of spells - she functions as a Mage and typically roams
Lane 2, seeking relatively consistent support from the
Riftwalker for her team.
