- 2. Q Magazine Double Page Article Artist = Florance and the Machiene
- 3. I decided to choose the Q Magazine Article about the Artist Florance and the Machiene as it’s based on the Indie Rock music genre, which my own article is based on as well . In this Q Magazine article we can notice a double page spread . On the right hand side there is the article about the artist and on the left hand side there is a large image of the artist . The image of Florance is very eye catching. They use the USA flag to ethasize her hair colour to bring out the vibrance of her. Looking fairly skinny and raunchy with her legs and shoes. This cover image is used to pull in the readers attention and as I have specified that its more probable that the target audience is males due to the fact women on the front of Q always have a raunchy edge to them. - 4. With using a pull cap at the start of the article, this makes it easier for the readers to be pulled into the article and make them more enthusiastic about getting into it. There is three columns on this article that is florence in the USA, so even though this double page spread looks clean cut and basic its not its quite a formal article due to the fonted writting is concentrated into one small area. Q’s style and codes and coventions is to be clean cut, with the use of red, white, black and grey. To pull in the target audience in a formal way but not looking like the magazine is too much effort, more the enjoyable. This follows the house style of double page spreads for Q like i said its either got alot of writting or a big main cover image. The background and headline are muted which make Florance stand out even more and appear more powerful and hypnotic as she appears to bleach the rest of the article, so all you see is her . There is also a use of a rhetorical question within the subheading to engage the reader to read on. The artist’s name is also bold and in another colour to highlight who the article is about easily. The use of ambiguous language with multiple meanings has also been used on the headline as it references her lyrics and therefore it ties the article back to her music .
- 5. The colour scheme used in this double page spread is very limited to white, grey black and red. The only bright colours in the double page spread are the birght red on the flag which links to the artists red hair and blue which is used in her name which contrasts the red. The clothing that the artist is wearing shows a sense of the Indie Rock fashion style .Florance is wearing a black playsuit which connotes danger and sex appeal which means that they are sexulising a woman to try and appeal to woman who will aspire to be like her . The black leather also connotes domination and her placing on the top of the American flag implies that she is dominating the USA. The overal atmosphere of this image is of sex appeal , confidence and domination .
