- 1. Computers: a boon or a bane? Good morning to everyone. Myself A.Shankhinn of XII A. I am here to speak about the topic: computers - a boon or a bane. Firstly, computers have become an integral part of our modern world, and their influence can be seen in almost every aspect of our lives. People are helpless without computers. Today, it is the employment of millions of people. Students and teachers are encouraged to use Information and Communication technology. It connects everyone in the world. We can communicate with each other. And this was very useful in the pandemic situation. Secondly, the work which required much time before can now be done simply within a minute. They have also provided many job opportunities in IT and other related fields, contributing to the growth of the economy. Globalization has become possible due to computers. Computers are used in each and every sector. From offices to schools, from colleges to houses ... everywhere it is used. Even in the defense system it is used. In hospitals to keep recording of patients, to find symptoms of various diseases it’s been used. Likewise, it has been used as source of education. Distance education has become possible. But computers have negative aspects too. Computer hackers are the main cause for its negativity. Online robbery has become possible. Hackers are actively involved in cybercrime. Piracy has become so frequent that business organizations have to face heavy losses. With the rise of the internet and social media, we are exposed to a vast amount of information, much of which is unverified and misleading. Apart from that, there are other threats like viruses, spam, bugs, and many other technical problems. Finally, computers are both a boon and a bane for society. They have brought about many positive changes, making our lives easier and more productive. However, they have also brought about negative effects, such as the rise of cybercrime and a sedentary lifestyle. We must use this technology responsibly and harness its benefits while mitigating its negative effects.
