Assembly Edit
Tutorial and Explanation
Tuesday, 27 January 15
Explanation
Essentially, the assembly edit of a text is the first
stage of any editorial process.
It is deciding which takes of all the clips you will
be using and placing this into the chronological
order explained in your final storyboard.

Process
When you place together the assembly edit of
your feature, you won’t be cutting any of the clips
to their correct lengths or adding in any special
effects. It merely involves the basic ordering and
placement of the clips.

Why is an assembly edit
needed?
An assembly edit of any production allows the
editor to see the basic structure of the film,
giving them an idea of what needs to be
changed to match the planned features. It also
shows anything that needs to be re-recorded
due to continuity errors, lighting changes or any
other problems.
