- 2. 2 CLASSIFICATION OF COMPUTER NETWORK A computer network is a group of computers linked to each other enables the computer to communication with another computer and share their resources data and application. The Definition of Computer Network: A computer network is a group of computers connect to each other the enables the computerto communicate with another computer and share with resources and aplications. A computer network is mainly four types: a.LAN(Local Area Network). b.PAN(Personal Area Network). c.MAN(Metropolitan Area Netwok). d.WAN(Wide Area Network). LOCAL AREA NETWORK: 1.Local area network is a group of computers connected to each other in a small area. 2.It is used for connecting two or more personal computer by twisted pair. 3.Data is transferred at an extremely faster in local area network. 4.Local area network provides higher security. PERSONAL AREA NETWORK: 1.Personal area Network is a network arranged within an individual person,typically within range of 10 meters.
- 3. 3 2.It is used for connecting the computer devices of personal use is known as PAN. 3.Personal computer devices that are used to develop the personal area network are the laptop,mobile phones,media players and play station. 4.Personal area network covers an area of 30 feet. METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK: 1.This is a network that covers a larger geographic area by interconnecting a different LAN to form a larger network. 2.The MAN,various LANs are connected to each other through a telephone exchange line. WIDES AREA NETWORK: 1.It is a network that extends over a latge geographical area such as states or countries. 2. The internet is one of the biggest WAN in the world. 3.A wide area network is widely used in the field of business,government. 4.It is quite bigger network than the LAN.
