This document discusses different types of computer networks. It defines a computer network as a group of connected computers that allow sharing of resources and communication. There are four main types of networks: local area networks (LANs) which connect computers in a small area like an office; personal area networks (PANs) within 10 meters of an individual; metropolitan area networks (MANs) connecting multiple LANs over a larger geographic region using telephone lines; and wide area networks (WANs) spanning large areas like states or countries, with the Internet being the largest example. Each network type is then defined in one or two sentences.
