Digital Graphic Technology:
Vectors
Vector are the use of geometrics such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygons, of
which are based on mathematical expressions which then represent images in computer
graphics. Vector graphics are based on vectors which lead through locations called control
points or nodes. Each of these points has a definite position on the x and y axes of the work
plane and determines the direction of the path; further, each path may be assigned a stroke
color, shape, thickness, and fill. These properties don't increase the size of vector graphics
files, which describes solely how the vector should be drawn.
Bitmap(Raster)
In computing, a bitmap is a mapping from some domain to bits or values which are zero or
one. It is also called a index. In computer graphics, when the domain is a rectangle a bitmap
gives a way to an image in which each pixel is either black or white. The more general term
pixmap refers to a map of pixels, where each one may store more than two colors, meaning
that it uses more than one bit per pixel. Often bitmap is used for this as well. In some
contexts, the term bitmap suggests one bit per pixel, while pixmap is used for images with
multiple bits for each pixel.
Image Capture
The process of using devices such as digital cameras or scanners to capture images in a
digital format. The resulting files are then further processed to arrive at a final image. These
can range fromsmall thumbnailsusedasimage linksin webpagestofull,screen-sizedJPEGs.
CameraRaw filescontainembeddedpreviewscreatedbythe camera,which,canthenbe displayed
by variousapplications. These have the abilitytoembedimagepreviewsof varyingsizes.
What May Impact Image Quality?
Sharpness determines the amount of detail an image can convey. System sharpness is
affected by the lens (design and manufacturing quality, focal length, aperture, and distance
from the image center) and sensor, focus accuracy, and atmospheric disturbances (thermal
effects. Lost sharpness can be restored by sharpening, but sharpening has limits.
Noise is a random variation of image density, visible as grain in filmand pixel level variations
in digital images. It arises from the effects of basic physics.
Dynamic range (or exposure range) is the range of light levels a camera can capture, usually
measured in EV exposure value. It is closely related to noise: high noise implies low dynamic
range.
Storage Of Image Assets
File size
Image file formats the normal way to store and organize digital graphics. They are made of
vector data, pixels, or a mixture of the two. The image file size is shown by the number of
bytes. The greater the number of rows and columns, the greater the image resolution, and
the larger the file size.
