GeographyBrazil is the largest country in South America and has the biggest population. Located in south eastern South America, the Atlantic Ocean surrounds Brazil.Total area of Brazil is 8, 511, 965 square kilometers.The coastline of Brazil is 7, 491 kilometers.The climate of Brazil is mostly tropical with lots of rain and flooding.
GeographySome of Brazil’s national resources include manganese, phosphates, and uranium.There are droughts in NE Brazil and floods in the south.Some environmental issues are deforestation, illegal wildlife trade, and oil spills.Brazil shares a boundary with every country in South America except for Chile and Ecuador.One famous geographical feature is the Archipelago of Fernando de Noronha which has 5 islands that are territory of Brazil.
People The estimated population of Brazil is 186, 112, 794.
 Majority of the population in Brazil is 15-64 yrs old (67.9%)
The median age is 27 years old.
Ratio of births to deaths is 16/6 .
In 2003 the number of people with HIV/AIDS was an estimated 660,000.PeopleLife expectancy of people living in Brazil is 71 yrs old, women live eight more years on average.53% of the population is mulatto. ( black & white)majority of the people are Roman Catholic. (73%)The main language spoken in Brazil is Portuguese.Other languages include Spanish, English, and French.86% of the population knows how to read.
Culture Much of Brazil’s culture came from Portugal.
Feijoada (pictured above) is the national meal of Brazil.

  • 15. Portugal had controlled Brazil prior to that point.
  • 16. Brazil was run by military control until 1985 when it was left for civilians to take over.
  • 17. The 1st indigenous people came from Alaska after exploring North America.
  • 18. The 1st European to discover Brazil was Portuguese Pedro Alvares Cabral in 1500. (Pictured above)HistoryBrazil’s first economy came from the selling of the tree Brazil wood.1st President was General Deodoro de Fonseca in 1889 due to military rule.After a constitutionalist revolt in 1932, democracy started in 1945.Fernando Collor de Mello was the first President elected by democracy in 1989.The biggest issue facing Brazil today is unequal distribution of wealth.
