Editor's Notes

  • #2: Hello and welcome to this presentation presented by myself, Shradha Khanal.Today the topic that we will discuss is about Occupational Safety and Health Act.
  • #3: This presentation shall include the various tenets associated with the occupational safety and health act. The presentation shall also include a discussion of the occupational health and safety in the private sector. This act was enacted with a view to ensure safety and health of the employees in various companies.
  • #4: This act was passed by the congress in the year 1970 and this act established federal occupational safety and health administration (OSHA). The laws pertaining to the safety and health of the employees is enforced by this organization. Occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) serves as an enforcer of this act while applying fines and penalties to the employer.
  • #5: This act mainly consolidates and amends the laws which regulate the occupational safety, working conditions, and health of the persons who are employed in business establishments. The act assures safe and healthful conditions for working women and men, and this is achieved by enforcement of the standards developed by the act.
  • #6: The OSH act enables OSHA to create various safety and health standards through various procedures which are set out in the act. Since, there are many potential workplace health and safety hazards the act imposes a general duty for all the employers to ensure safe workplaces for the employees.
  • #7: The act also plays an important role in the prevention of the hazards from various workplace related factors. One essential element which is important in this regard, is that the employer must ensure a safe working place for the employees related to physical and mental health.
  • #8: This act is important as the employers are now more responsible for the work conditions which are provided to the employees. This leads to reduced accidents, injuries and other hazards, and better management of the risks in the workplace towards the employees.
  • #9: The knowledge of this law and its provisions is essential for the employees as they can detect and report unhealthy and risky work environments. Tracing potential risks and identification of health-related workplace challenges is important and this can be ensured by the employees who have proper knowledge of the law.
  • #10: The employers must pay special attention to ensure that there is no imminent danger to the safety of the employees. Adequate measures must be taken to ensure the strategies and planning for the better safety and health.
