A.S.S.U.R.E. 
A-Analyze Learners 
I will be teaching my first grade special education class the months of the year. 
My class consists of 10 boys, 7 girls, 70% white 20% African-American and 10% 
Hispanic. 7 of my students have mild to severe A.D.H.D. First to assess my 
students’ knowledge on the months of the year I will give them a test. The test 
will be very simple, consisting of matching the months in chronological order. 
The results of the test will give me an idea of how much my students know about 
the subject. Knowing this will allow me to find my starting point with the 
subject. 
S-State objectives 
In one week my students will be able to recite the months of the year in 
chronological order by participating in activities using posters, songs, and videos 
to achieve 85% degree level. 
S-Select the Methods, Media, and Material 
I will be using posters to display the months of the year on the wall in order. 
Singing songs that involve the months of the year. I will play videos to help them 
memorize the months. 
U-Utilize Media and Material 
First I will split the students into groups to create a poster for every month of the 
year. Once all the posters are finished I will put them all on the wall in 
chronological order. We’ll sing songs while referring back to the posters to 
memorize. We will also watch age appropriate videos about the months and 
how many days are in them. I will then use the “knuckle method” to help them 
remember the number of days in each month. The “knuckle method” is saying 
the names of the months in chronological order and pointing to your knuckles 
and the gaps in between from left to right. For every knuckle there is 31 days 
and for every gap there is 30. This doesn’t apply for February it has 28. 
R-Require Learner Participation 
By the end of the week I will assess them orally to see what they have learned. I 
will ask them simple questions about the content. Everyone must participate in 
the activities. Every new month of the school year I will ask them what how 
many days will be in the month. 
E-Evaluate and Revise 
Considering how well my students learned and how effective the lesson plan was 
I would critique it accordingly for future classes.
