Epsilon Sigma takes home Chapter Excellence
Awards at the ATO National Convention
The Campaign for Alpha Tau 0mega, the most significant undertaking in the
history of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter has raised more than $1.,272,925 from
387 different campaign donors. Gifts to the campaign range in size from
$200.000 to $25.
"Response has been wonderful," said past House Corporation President
. "When we actually get a chance to talk with a brother and
share our excitement about the new house, almost everyone wants to do his fair
share to make it happen."
Although the first part of the campaign has ended, fundraising is ongoing.
Most brothers made campaign pledges over a five-year period, so it will
take some time until all of the money is collected. To date, more than
$321,000 has been collected. Al1 funds collected, after paying campaign
expenses, are maintained in a separate new house account through Merrill
Lynch in Tallahassee.
"We have this one opportunity to do it dght," explained "We're always
interested in talking with brothers about how they can help by making a
pledge to the campaign."
Although more than $1.27 million has been raised. It looks as if the new
house will cost at least $2 million. The balance can be financed, but the
House Corporation hopes to minimize the debt as much as possible so that
rental income can go into maintenance, upkeep, and eventually scholarships
to the chanter.

Reorganizing for excellence was the theme of 2OO7-O2. While maintaining their
ptacJ at thelop of the FSU fraternity system, the chapter began the process of
iocusing on ali internal operations and activities. The large Fall 2000 and Fall
zoot pledge classes, although young, began to ask, "why do we do certain
things ttre way we do?" In many cases, there was no real answer. Thus began a
p.o..r, that will continue into the coming yeal of revising all chapter bylaws,
procedures and appointed officer and committee responsibilities' So far, the
results have been extremely positive.

Compus Involvement
Service to the campus community and involvement on campus is
still one of ATO's strongest areas. Brother Austin Nowlin '99, from
ponte vedra Beach, currently leads the Interfraternity council as
President and is a member of Burning Spear. For nearly the last
fifteen years, AI0's have held two of the executive officer positions with
Scalphunters, and this year John Roble '97 (President) and Tyler Woolson '99
(Treasurer) continued that tradition. Three members of the Student Senate are
AI0's, four brothers are in Order of Omega and numerous brothers serve on IFC
and Student Government committees.
Athlefics
One missed meeting caused
ATO to lose some crucial
points in the race for the
Intramural chamPionshiP
forcing the chaPter to Place
second in the All-FraternitY
contest - less than 50
points behind Delta Tau
Delta. Despite our second
place finish, AT0 had a
great intramural Year. Not
only did the chaPter beat
all other fraternities, but it
was the All CamPus Men's
Champion for Football,
Basketball and Swimming
this past year!

Acqdemics
Although the chapter grade point average for 2001-02 rose
to a 2.6, Scholarship Chairmen Alex Serrano '02 and Mike
Lemme '01 have set out to reestablish a realistic scholar-
ship program for the chapter. This comin$ FalI, to remain
in good standing, all brothers must maintain a cumulative
grade point average of 2.25. The chapter is currently
seeking an Alumni Academic Advisor to work with them
and monitor their performance in this crucial area. Anyone
interested in serving in this role should contact Board of
Trustees Chairman Fred Maglione '93.
Finqnces
What has been a perpetual problem, chapter flnances
significantly improved during the last academic year. Past
Treasurer John Roble
'98 worked tirelessly to
reduce the debt to both
the House Corporation
and National Headquarters
that had accumulated
over several years. At
the end of his term,
Roble had squeezed
thousands out of the
budget to pay NHQ and
the House Corporation.
In addition to paying
the bills, Roble
developed a tracking
system using 0mega
Financial. Inc.. a national
fraternitv financial
management company. Left with accurate information and
a newly developing system, current Treasurer Scott
Anderson '99 stepped into place to continue along Roble's
path. At the end of the school year, the balance due to the
National Headquarters was zero. Chapter Advisor Garrick
Wright '97, a budget analyst with KPMG Consulting,
intends to work closely with Anderson to develop a
realistic, understandable and workable budget for the
2OO2-O3 school year.
Community Service
The chapter supported multiple causes during the year.
They placed first in the Alpha Chi Omega Par-Tee, second
in the Theta Jam and third in the Phi Mu Grand SIam.
In addition to participating in almost every fraternity and
sorority philanthropy, AT0 supported Tallahassee Habitat
for Humanity and the Shelter with several clothing drives
throughout the year.
Chopter Size
r Last year, Epsilon Sigma ranked 3rd out of 137 AT0
chapters by pledge class size
o Last year, Epsilon Sigma was the 10th largest AIO
chapler in the nation.
o As of April 2002, ATO is the third largest fraternity at
Florida State behind the Pikes and Sigma Chi
