Automated Irrigation system
Using WSN And GPRS
Abstract:
 Agriculture Sector is changing the socio-economic
environments of the population due to liberalization and
globalization.
 Irrigation system in India has given a high priority in
economic development.
 Many new concepts are being developed to allow
agricultural automation to flourish and deliver its full
potential.
 To take full advantage of the present technologies, we
should not just consider the single technology but we
should look at the wider issues for complete development of
a system.

Previously Existing system
• If power is came to the crop field
transmission Line , then the motor will be ON
automatically
• Due to this there is high power consumption
and wastage of water happens
• Some times due to the earthening of input Ac
supply to the motor will leads to people
death also
Proposed system
• To automate the irrigation system we are using
the soil moisture sensor , which is used to
calibrate the moisture level in the soil
• And a GSM module is used to communicate
with the user and the circuit with crop field
motor- ON/OFF conditioning , moisture levels of
soil
• This is achieved using an integrated
development environment platform called

YL-38 Soil Moisture Sensor is used to
measure the moisture level in soil.
The YL-38 ranges from 0 to 45%
volumetric water content in soil.
 It operates on 3mA at 5v DC. Its
operating temperature is from -400C to
+600C.
 The sensor also has a Potentio Meter
to celebrate the sensitivity of the
sensor.
GSM
oThe SIM800L communicates with
microcontroller via UART port, supports
command including 3GPP TS 27.007, 27.005
and SIMCOM enhanced AT Commands.
oAlso has built-in level translation, so it can
work with microcontroller of higher voltage
than 2.8V default.
oThe board also supports A-GPS technique
which is called mobile positioning and gets
position by mobile network.
o This features make it can also be a tracker
module.

• GPRS multi-slot class12 connectivity: max. 85.6kbps(down-
load/up-load)
• GPRS mobile station class B
• Controlled by AT Command (3GPP TS 27.007, 27.005 and
SIMCOM enhanced AT Commands)
• Supports Real Time Clock
• Supply voltage range 3.4V ~ 4.4V
• Supports A-GPS
• Supports 3.0V to 5.0V logic level
• Low power consumption, 1mA in sleep mode
• Compact size 23mm x 35mm x 5.6mm
• Micro SIM Card

PROJECTEXECUTIONSTEPS
Sensor reads the moisture contained in the soil and feeds
to the microcontroller .
Microcontroller compare the sensor input and the
threshold value
If the sensor input value is less than 50%, user is
informed via android mobile phone. plants get watered
or else it continues to read the moisture value
The watering stops till the moisture contain reaches the
threshold value
When the pump stops user is again signaled via mobile
