OVERVIEW
So what is this project about? What does it
do?
Basically this is a soil moisture monitoring
system, which detects if the moisture content in
the soil is above or below a certain satisfactory
threshold value. If it goes below a certain critical
point, it is time to water the plant and an
arrangement of a DC motor is used to control the
watering mechanism here in this project.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
• The Soil moisture sensor continuously
monitors the volumetric moisture content in
the soil and sends that information to the
Arduino.
• If the soil moisture content goes below a
certain point, which is decided by the
threshold value given in the Arduino code,
and the DC motor to start watering
mechanism.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
• As soon as the Arduino decides that the
soil needs watering , it tells the relay to
switch on the pump.
• The pump motor, i.e., the DC Motor is
running to maintain a steady flow of
water to the pot.

ADVANTAGES
 It's a time saving procedure.
 Eliminates manual task.
 It's a very particular process, that
means water is effectively targeted
only where it is needed.
DISADVANTAGES
 The system can be very expensive.
 It requires electricity.

CONCLUSION
 The primary applications for this project are for farmer sand
gardeners who do not have enough time to water their
crops/plants.
 The project can be extended to green houses where manual
supervision is far and few in between.
 The principle can be extended to create fully automated
gardens and farmlands.
 In agricultural lands with severe shortage of rainfall, this model
can be successfully applied to achieve great results with most
types of soil.
