To increase student participation and learning, teachers should create a positive classroom environment, plan lessons with student learning in mind, and reflect on lessons. A positive environment is important as negative associations can decrease student participation and learning. Teachers can remedy this by removing negative associations, increasing positive reinforcement like praise, and decreasing punishment which may discourage participation.
