INTRODUCTION TO
COMPUTER
1
Computer
 A computer is an electronic device which
helps in solving problems quickly and
easily.
It solve problems according to instructions
given to it by the computer user.
2
Computer
 A computer is like a brainy friend that helps you do
all sorts of things. It's made up of different parts,
kind of like how your body is made up of different
parts.
 One important part is the processor, which is like
the brain of the computer. It thinks really fast and
helps the computer do everything you ask it to do.
 Then there's the memory. This is like the
computer's short-term memory. It helps the
computer remember things while it's working on
them, but it forgets everything when you turn off the
computer.
3
Computer
 There's also the storage, which is like the computer's long-term memory. It
keeps things safe even when the computer is turned off, like photos, videos,
and games.
 And of course, there's the input and output devices. These are like the
computer's eyes, ears, and hands. They let you see what the computer is doing
(like the screen), tell the computer what you want it to do (like the keyboard
and mouse), and hear what the computer has to say (like the speakers).
 Put all these parts together, and you've got yourself a computer! It's like a
super-smart tool that can help you with homework, games, music, and so much
more
4
Functionalities of a computer
Any digital computer carries out five functions in
gross terms:
Takes data as input.
Stores the data/instructions in its memory and
use them when required.
Processes the data and converts it into useful
information.
Generates the output
Controls all the above four steps

Input Devices
 Input device is any peripheral (piece of computer hardware equipment to
provide data and control signals to an information processing system such as a
computer or other information appliance.
 Input device Translate data from form that humans understand to one that the
computer can work with. Most common are keyboard and mouse

Example of Input Devices
Keyboard Mouse (pointing device) Microphone
Touch screen Scanner Webcam
Touchpads MIDI keyboard
Graphics Tablets Cameras Pen Input
Video Capture Hardware Microphone Trackballs

Graphic design elements
• Graphic design elements are the building
blocks of graphics.
– Line
– Color
– Shape
– Texture
23
Lines
• Lines can be straight or
curved.
• How are lines used in the
composition on this slide?
24
Color definitions
• Hue is another word for color.
• Chroma is the intensity or purity of color.
• Tint is a color mixed with white.
• Tone is a color mixed with gray.
• Shade is a color mixed with black.
25
Shapes
• Shapes are enclosed
objects that can be
created by line or created
by color and value
changes that define their
edges.
26
Texture
• Texture is the surface look of an object created by varying
dark and light areas.
– Roughness
– Smoothness
– Depth
27
Application of Graphic
Design
• Website design
• Logo & Brochures design
• Package design
• Banner design
• Visiting cards
