Slide 0: Bloomberg Assessment Test >>> BAT “Bloomberg L.P. is a financial data analytics and media company that delivers business and financial information and news around the world. The company has developed the Bloomberg Assessment Test (BAT), a learning tool aimed for students and graduates that want to pursue a career in finance and are interested in finding a job or internship opportunity. The BAT will be offered for you on our campus completely free of charge.” Slide 1: What is the BAT? ! “The Bloomberg Assessment Test is a standard online test that evaluates students and recent graduates for their financial aptitude and general knowledge. “ ! “The content of the test is being developed by testing specialists, academics and professionals in the field.” ! “The main purpose of the BAT is to help students with employability and to help them define themselves as potential candidates in the financial industry. “ Slide 2: What is the BAT? ! “The BAT is an online test that lasts three hours.” ! “The test has 11 sections divided in two groups: Finance knowledge and Career Skills.” ! “It is in English and consists of 155 multiple choice questions.” ! “The questions are designed to put students in contact with real‐world financial scenarios that would be encounter on the job. The test examines a student's ability to apply learned knowledge to solve practical problems.” ! “You can take the BAT completely free of charge here on campus or at a Bloomberg office.”

Slide 12: After the BAT: ! “Approximately 3 days after taking the BAT you will receive a link to your personal profile.” ! “Here you will be able to see your global BAT score and your scores per section.” ! “This allows you to discover your strengths and weaknesses as relative to a career in finance” ! “You will also be able to compare yourself against all BAT test takers globally. This provides a unique opportunity for you to see where you stand in comparison to the global talent pool against which you are competing for jobs.” ! “At this point, you will also be able to update your personal profile, adding e.g. extra languages, previous work experience, university scores, leadership skills, etc.” ! “Once you receive your scores, your profile will also be entered into the Bloomberg Institute Talent Search. You may opt out of being included in the Talent Search if you so choose“ Slide 13: Talent Search: “The Talent Search is the tool that employers are using to find talented candidates for entry level full time and internship roles. The Talent Search aims to match candidate strengths with employer needs and only searches on the areas of the test that are relevant for the specific job opportunity. This means that students do not have to do well on all sections of the test in order to get contacted by employers, but rather allows them to showcase their strengths to employers.” “All student profiles are completely anonymous, and students control which companies have access to their complete profile and personal details. Students can also choose up to three countries in which they would like to promote themselves, providing the ability to maximize the employment search both locally and abroad.”
- 5. “Students have the option to opt out of the Talent Search if they are not happy with their scores. Students can also opt out of being included in the talent search even before they take the test if they would simply like to see where their strengths are and where they stand compared to the global talent pool.” Please click on the link to demonstrate the Talent Search: “I am now going to run a sample search, to show you how employers are using the Bloomberg Talent Search” “Let us say we are an employer, for example a Bank or Hedge Fund, and we have a role that we are trying to fill. We are going to select the criteria that are relevant to the vacancy we are offering. “ “We need a student in:” 1. Please go to Test Location and select your country (e.g. United Kingdom) "We can then further identify specific language skills we need for the role, year of graduation, or specific degree type, but for this example we will just select the country we are looking to hire in." 2. Please go to the section Subject Area at the bottom of the page: "At the bottom of the page are the eleven sections of the BAT that all students have completed. Please click “To proceed please check box to agree to our terms of service and privacy policy” and hit Search. ! “What we see now is the list of all students that match the criteria we have selected, stack ranked based on the average of the subject areas selected. “ ! “We can see two different scores, “Average of Subject Areas”, meaning the score of the sections we have previously selected (Economics, Investment Banking, Analytical Reasoning and Verbal Skills), and "BAT Score" which is the student's overall BAT score.” ! “So based on our search, profile #1 should be the best match for our role” Please select the first profile of the list. “Here we can see a profile of the student with the highest score according to our criteria.” “As you can see the profile is completely anonymous. Only basic details about the candidate are listed along with an ID number. We also see a graph showing the candidate's scores on each of the 11 sections of the BAT, (this is indicated by the light blue bar), compared to the global average on each section, (this is indicated by the dark blue dot). “ “At the point that the employer wants to connect with this candidate to discuss an employment opportunity, they just click the green “connect” button. The student will receive an email indicating the name of the company interested in connecting and informing that they would like to discuss a job opportunity. If the student accepts the connection, the employer will then be able to see the candidate's full profile, including leadership skills, past work experience, career interests, and name. At this point the employer will reach out directly to arrange an interview.” Please close the Internet window.

Slide 15: Frequently Asked Questions ! How to prepare for the Test? “There are no official study materials for the BAT, but there are sample questions available at the Bloomberg Institute Website. The BAT covers a very wide range of topics and represents a practitioner’s approach to finance (i.e. not textbook knowledge only). Therefore candidates should prepare for the BAT as they would an interview and not focus on the details of financial theory. A successful test taker will understand “the big picture” of how all the parts fit together.”

Can I remove/add my scores from/to the Talent Search? “A student can remove his profile from the Talent Search if he is not happy with his score and can also add his profile to the Talent Search after taking the BAT.” ! What is more important: my overall score or my score per sections? “Students don´t have to be experts on every subject area of the BAT. The Talent Search aims to match candidate strengths with employer needs and only searches on the areas of the test that are relevant for the specific job opportunity.” ! What happens if I fail the BAT? “You cannot fail the BAT. There is no pass or fail scoring. Scores are mainly important in relation to where you rank in an employer's search and how you compare to the global average.” ! Can I retake the test? “You are welcome to take the BAT as many times as you would like. All instances of your score are recorded so you can compare how you have improved over time”. >> “In the leaflets and posters you can find instructions on how to sign up for the session at our campus.
