Poverty is defined as lacking the basic necessities like shelter, food and clean water. Over 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day and 80% of people live on less than $10 a day. 22,000 children die daily due to poverty. Hugh Evans founded the Global Poverty Project in 2008 after seeing the living conditions in Manila slums at age 14, with the goal of ending absolute poverty by 2030 through public support and government assistance. The Global Poverty Project helped secure funds from governments worldwide that provided access to clean water, food, education and healthcare for 210 million impoverished people.
