The project uses mathematical modeling to determine optimal locations for beehives to maximize pollination. A partnership between the University of Essex and Simul Systems Ltd aims to develop an app to help beekeepers improve productivity by analyzing maps and mathematical models of plant distributions. Funding from the UK Technology Strategy Board supported a prototype, with hopes of further development and commercialization.
Project Beeswax
- 1. A joint project between Simul Systems Ltd & University of Essex Mathematical science is being applied to find the best positions for beehives to optimise pollination through a partnership between the University of Essex and Andrew Lewis, from Chelmsford-based Simul Systems Ltd. The project has been made possible after Andrew was awarded a £5,000 Innovation Voucher from the Technology Strategy Board to help develop an app for tablet PCs, desktop computers and laptops to help beekeepers improve productivity.
