Background
 There is a movement towards increasing use of
coalitions in public health
 Few studies exist documenting effectiveness of
coalitions
 Fewer models exist to evaluate effectiveness of
coalition work in public health
 No studies exist evaluating effectiveness of coalitions
focused on STDs

Purpose
 Evaluate the effectiveness of the NCC, including its
internal operations and impact of the coalition on
members and other stakeholders
 Document key factors that have contributed to NCC’s success
 Document the process of coalition development so that lessons
learned can be used for developing future coalitions
 Highlight strengths and accomplishments of NCC to inform for
example, additional potential funders, internal and external to
CDC

 Process evaluation: document whether a program has
been implemented as intended—“implementation
fidelity”— and why or why not?
 To document the level of success in achieving objectives
 To identify areas of the program that need improvement
 To improve the content of the program’s materials
 To solicit more funds or additional partners
