Open Educational Resources
Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning, and research
materials that are freely available and openly licensed for anyone to
use, adapt, and distribute. OER can include a wide range of materials
such as textbooks, course readings, quizzes, assignments, videos,
lectures, and other educational tools. It comes with various benefits as
well as challenges.
Benefits
1. Cost Effective
• OER are free or low-cost
• Reduces financial burden on students
2. Accessibility
• Easily accessible to anyone with an internet connection
• Promotes inclusive education
• Removes geographical barriers to learning
Benefits
3. Flexibility
• Materials can be customized and adapted to meet specific learning needs
• Supports various teaching and learning styles
• Encourages innovative teaching practices
4. Collaboration and Sharing
• Fosters collaboration among educators and learners
• Encourages sharing of resources and best practices
• Builds a community of practice
