Best Current Operational Practices (BCOP) are living documents that describe best practices agreed upon by subject matter experts in network engineering. BCOPs aim to address the problem that operational knowledge is often shared informally and not documented or accessible over time. BCOPs provide a community-driven process to document practices in an open, transparent way and make them publicly searchable. There are existing BCOP efforts regionally in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America focused on topics such as network testing, visibility, and routing policies. The next steps are to develop new BCOP documents, review existing ones, and coordinate efforts globally.
