Challenge – missing interoperability
 Today, we are dealing with many heterogeneous, vertically oriented IoT platforms.
 Thus, the development of cross-platform and cross-domain applications is tedious and expensive.
 Additionally, it leads to high market entry barriers for small innovative business.
 As a result of this, no vibrant IoT ecosystem exists.

€750k for 3rd parties to implement new IoT solutions or integrate the existing
ones into the BIG IoT ecosystem by making use of the BIG IoT enablers

2nd Open Call Summary
What?
Type 1: Developing new services/apps based on data available on the marketplace.
Type 2: Integrate existing IoT data sources/platforms by using BIG IoT API, offer them on the BIG IoT
Marketplace AND develop new apps/services based on new data/existing data. The data sources and
the developments should be related to Smart Mobility and Environmental Monitoring and the BIG IoT
pilots.

applications, get visibility in the European IoT community

How to Apply

Who
 Individual SMEs, universities, companies and research institutes,
start ups, public agencies, public utilities, publicly owned
societies;
already registered, only one entity per proposal;
not necessarily located in any of the three demonstration sites
 Not eligible for funding: institutions, organisations or other kind
of legal entities funded by or otherwise affiliated with a BIG IoT
partner
 Each participant can present more than one proposal but only
one can be selected
 Participants selected from the first Open Call can participate to
the second Open Call providing a value-added solution
 Preferred data referring to pilot areas (Piedmont, Barcelona,
Berlin) PLEASE HIGHLIGHT THIS ASPECT IN THE PROPOSALS!

Two possible types of proposal:
 Type 1: Development of new applications
and services based on data available on the
marketplace
 Type 2: Platform and services integration in
BIG IoT

development of new applications and
services based on existing data/newly
provided data

 IoT Platform and Data providers, developers
 Domains: Smart Mobility (traffic, parking etc.)
and Smart Environment (e.g. air quality)
 Data (own or open source) – data won’t
become automatically open but BIG IoT
provides solutions for accounting, licensing,
and billing
 IoT Platforms that contain offerings/data and
new development ideas
 Proposals in English
 Proposals up to €35k or €60k depending on the
type

Innovative IT-services and applications for
 Smart parking
 Integration of smart parking and smart charging to
provide reservation and payment functionalities for
parking places, parking spots at charging stations,
and car sharing cars.
 Multimodal mobility information including
reservation and booking services for mobility
options and
 Multimodal routing and navigation services
including incident messages for trip monitoring
purposes.

Barcelona Pilot Wish List
 Development of new apps for in-car integration
using the existing protocols (Mirror Link, Android
Auto or Apple Carplay) based on own or existing
BIG IoT offerings.
 Further innovative IT-services and applications
processing the Barcelona BIG IoT data offerings for
Smart Parking, Traffic Monitoring, Smart Bike
Sharing, Public Transport Optimization, Smart
Charging and Multimodal Routing and Navigation.
 New app based on Incentive-based Green Route
Planning for end customers, which enables to
make a demo with connected cars using the
navigator system through Mirror Link or Android
Auto.
 BCN pilot could also benefit from operators´ IT
services and apps for payment and reservation of
parking places and from services and applications
supporting Device-to-Device communication.
