Basic Concept of Institutional

• The developments of institutional repositories

approach in higher education.
• “A digital collection capturing and preserving
the intellectual output of a single or multi-

Basic Concept of Institutional

• “A university-based institutional repository is a
set of services that a university offers to the
members of its community for the management
and dissemination of digital materials created by
the institution and its community members”
(Lynch,2003)
--Continue
• In simplest sense it is a type of content management
system that holds the university’s core intellectual
asset such that it is available and accessible to the
scholar community.
Benefits of Institutional
Repository
• Create global visibility for an institution’s research
outputs
• A repository that contains high quality content could
be used as a 'shop window' or marketing tool to
entice staff, students and funding
• Centralized content management system
• Store and preserve the institutional intellectual
asset
• Increase citation
Role of Institutional Repository in
Scholarly communication

which research and other scholarly writings are
created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the

among scholars and within the public

Way forwards and conclusion
Way Forwards
We librarian------
• we should share leadership and operational
responsibility with other concerned bodies
• Organize workshops, seminars, orientation
on regular base
• Find champions from faculty and Students
Way forwards and Conclusion
Conclusion
The traditional means of scholarly communication
is not applicable in today's digital scholarly
