Blushers & Powders
Powder
Face powder is applied after the foundation and any other
cream products that are going to be applied.
Powders will help to set and matify your desired look. They
will absorb shine, and help the foundation to last longer.
Coloured pigments are added to the powders to give them
colour and tone.
Blushers
Some blushers may appear very vibrant, but when applied
correctly can produce a very subtle effect.
There are two types of blushers, powder and cream
The reason for using blusher is to accentuate the
cheekbones, add warmth and colour to the face
Cream Blushers
This type of blusher could be advised for the client to use at
home, as it often comes in stick form, making it easier to
apply. Apply with fingers.
Powder blushers
Powder blushes are the most commonly used type of
blusher. They give a slightly less natural effect than cream,
but can be used subtly.
Blusher application
 Scrape small amount onto palette and load blusher brush up with
product
 Gently tap any excess product off the side of brush
 Apply blusher to the cheek area
 Strokes to go upwards and outwards
 Avoid using the blusher to close to the nose and eyes
 Build the colour up slowly for a natural effect

Coloured pigments are added to the powders to give them colour and tone.
They come in two different forms to suit the client’s needs.
Loose powders
These are available in different shades and pigments, are sometimes added to
counteract different skin imperfections and create different effects. Loose
powders also come in translucent, this form of powder will allow the
foundation and skin colour underneath to shine through.
Pressed powders
Pressed powders provide better coverage than loose powders.
Usually during a make up application a loose powder would be use, and a
pressed powder is recommend to the client for home use, and touch up during
the day.
Powder application
 Using a clean spatula remove some loose powder onto a palette or a tissue
 Press a piece of cotton wool into the powder and press the powder all over
the face
 Remove excess powder with a large powder brush
