The history of electricity in Delhi began in 1905 with the establishment of the John Flemming Company, which provided power mainly to British officials and the wealthy. Over the years, various entities took over power generation and distribution, leading to the unbundling of the Delhi Vidyut Board in 2002 into five companies, including BSES, which now serves over 2.7 million consumers. BSES has consistently improved its infrastructure and efficiency, achieving significant reductions in distribution losses and expanding its service area.
