In the film Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer's block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack's writing goes nowhere and Danny's visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel's dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.

He was born on the 26th July 1928 and he died at the age of 70 on the 7th March 1999. He won a bafta award for best film and he also won an academy award for best picture. Kubrick was raised in the Bronx, New York City, and attended William Howard Taft High School from 1941 to 1945.
