Introduction:
 MYSQL is an open-source relational database
management system(RDBMS).
 Its name is a combination of “My", the name of co-
founder Michael Widenius’s daughter and “SQL”
,the abbreviation for structure Query Language
 MYSQL is free and open-source software under
the terms of GNU General Public License and is
also available under a variety of proprietary
licenses.
 MySQL is a component of the LAMP web
application software stack , which is an
acronym for Linux, Apache, MYSQL,
Perl/PHP/python.
MySQL Architecture:
 MySQL is very different from other database
servers and its architectural characteristics
make it useful for a wide range of purposes as
well as making it a poor choice for others.
MYSQL is not perfect ,but it is flexible enough
to work well in very demanding environments
, such as web application.
 Online transaction processing (OLTP) and
much more

Components, features and
functionalities:
MYSQL components:
 These are the main MYSQL components:
 MYSQL server . It is the database server.
 MYSQL Clients. These are programs that
communicate with server.
 Data Directory . This is where MYSQL stores
the databases.
 Storage Engine . Manages how the
information is organized , stored and
accessed.
MYSQL Features:
 Relation database Management system(RDBMS):
MYSQL is a relation database management
system
 EASY TO USE: MYSQL is easy to use , have to
get only the basic knowledge of SQL. Build and
interact with MYSQL with only a few simple SQL
statements.
 IT IS SECURE : MYSQL consist of a solid data
security layer that protects sensitive data from
intruders. Passwords are encrypted in MYSQL.
 CILENT/SERVER ARCHITECTURE: MYSQL
follows a client/server architecture. There is a
database server (MYSQL) and arbitrarily
many clients , which communicate with the
server ; that is the query data, save changes ,
etc.
 FREE TO DOWNLOAD : MYSQL is free to
use and can download it from MYSQL official
website .
 IT IS SCALABLE : MYSQL can handle almost
any amount of data , up to as much as 50
million rows or more . The default file size limit
is about 4GB.
 COMPATIBLE ON MANY OPERATING
SYSTEM: MYSQL is compatible to run on
many operating system , like novel NetWare ,
window * Linux * many varieties of UNIX*
 ALLOWS ROLL-BACK: MYSQL allows
transaction to be rolled back , commit and
crash recovery .
 HIGH PERFORMANCE : MYSQL is faster ,
more reliable and cheaper because of its
unique storage engine architecture.
 HIGH FLEXIBILITY: MYSQL supports a large
number of embedded application which
makes MYSQL very flexible
MySQL FUNCTIONALITIES:
 This section gives the most commonly used
MYSQL function including aggregate function ,
string functions , string functions , data-time
functions , control flow function , etc.
 MYSQL AGGREATE FUNCTION : aggregate
function allows to perform a calculation on a set of
records and return a single value. MYSQL
aggregate function including SUM , AVG , MAX ,
MIN and COUNT function.
MYSQL comparison function:
 Comparison function in MYSQL including
COALESCE , GREATEST , LEAST and ISNULL .
 MYSQL control flow function and expression – the
control flow function allow add if-then-else logic to
SQL queries without using the procedural code
 MYSQL window Function – this tutorial introduces
to MYSQL windows function and provides with
some practical and motivational e.g. of the window
function in MYSQL

 MYSQL TOOLS: MYSQL workbench is available
on windows, Linux and Mac OS x.
 Design – MYSQL workbench enables a DBA ,
developer or data architect to visually design ,
model ,generate and manage database.
 Develop – MYSQL workbench delivers visual tools
for creating , executing and optimizing SQL
queries . The SQL editor provides color syntax
highlighting ,auto-complete, reuse of SQL
snippets and execution history of SQL.
 Administer – MYSQL workbench provides a
visual console to easily administer MYSQL
environments and gain better visibility into
database .
 Database Migration – MYSQL workbench
provide a complete ,easy to use solution for
migrating Microsoft SQL server.
