The client needed to test secured file storage services for their cloud organization. They had native, web, and mobile applications that required testing across different platforms and devices. - 1. Case Study: Security Testing The client is one of the leaders in Mobile Object Technology, Systems Engineering, Distributed Architectures and Cloud Computing. Over the last decade, the client has been involved in designing solutions for the Federal government and building security enabled products from conception stage. With expertise in secure movement and management of data across the open Internet, it has engineered solutions to maximize performance and usability. The client allows for reduced bandwidth requirements, improved performance and enhanced security. It has introduced new Data Analytics and visualization capabilities for legacy and cutting-edge emerging systems which can run on Cloud, Network, Home and Mobile devices. Challenges Secured File Storage Services for Cloud Organization The client had Native applications to be tested on various platforms (Windows and Mac). The Web Application needed to be tested on different browser versions and Mobile apps on Android and iOS. Inherently a complex application, it required customized test strategy to test the application every time, as it ran in short sprints. The challenge for the testing team was to develop scripts for file chunks/encryption and uploading them through RESTful APIs. Regression and exploratory testing was required on multiple platforms (Cross-Client testing).
- 2. Solution Benefits Automation of Web application and restful API’s using open source solution gave the client an advantage of a low-cost solution with total (low) cost of ownership. Mobile test automation solution was independent of iOS and Android devices. RESTful APIs helped create solution which was agnostic of Native, Web and Mobile GUI. The first step was to certify client’s APIs. TenXLabs testing teams developed test harness to test RESTful APIs (using JAVA libraries) to chunk and encrypt the files (for upload/download feature) and execute regression suite (both Manual and Automation) on all the channels (Web, Native applications) and Mobile apps (Android and iOS). TenXLabs also identified bottle necks (usingJMeter) in the application, during performance testing at early stages. The TenXLabs team discovered several areas to improve and provided the client with a detailed analysis report. TenXLabs team developed a robust solution to address the specific business need. The harness tool created helped client execute regression suite (for Native, Web and Mobile applications) from a single interface.
