This document summarizes a student project to test the capabilities of a new coreless induction furnace called MELT IT for casting metals. The project involved creating patterns to use for mold making, creating molds using plaster of paris, melting aluminum in the MELT IT furnace and casting it into the molds, finishing the cast parts, and testing them. The stages of pattern making, mold making, casting, finishing, and testing are described in detail over multiple pages. Challenges encountered with mold making such as imperfect molds are documented. The casting process using the MELT IT furnace and finishing steps like milling and sanding cast parts are also outlined.
