The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) is
an autonomous body under Ministry of AYUSH,
Govt. of India to guide, develop and regulate the
practice and study of Indian system of medicine.
It is a statutory body constituted under the
Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970.
Since its establishment in 1971, the Central
Council has been framing on and implementing
various regulations including the curricula and
syllabii in Indian systems of medicine viz.
Ayurved, Siddha and Unani Tibb at under-
graduate and post-graduate level. The Sowa
Rigpa system of medicine is included in CCIM
from the year 2012. Now, all the colleges of
Indian systems of medicine are affiliated to
various Universities in the country. These
colleges are following the minimum standards of
education and curricula and syllabii, prescribed
by central council.
Business Issues
§ Manual process: It was a cumbersome
process of getting the visitation proforma
containing the details related to
Infrastructure, Teaching, non-Teaching and
Medical staffs, Student Information, Financial
details and details of Medical facilities and so
on from colleges. Colleges use to ll these
details manually on papers.
§ Huge paperwork: After lling the details in
hardcopy of the proforma, colleges use to
submit the bunch of papers to visitors
manually. This involved a huge paperwork.
§ Time consuming: After receiving the
visitation proforma from the colleges, the
visitors team was scrutinizing each data
submitted one by one and were creating the
visitation report manually. As huge amount of
data were considered and artifacts were
manually compared for report preparation, it
was taking a good 4-5 months time to
complete this report and share with
Government of India.
§ Human errors: As the nal Assessment report
was created manually, there were human
errors, wrong calculations.
§ Lack of transparency: Due to manual
visitation process, it lacked transparency.
§ No real time status reporting: The
management was not able to get a real time
status of the visitation progress.
§ Duplication: As data was collected on papers,
colleges were able to submit duplicate records
on critical data items such as Teachers’
information, Hospital staff information.
§ Inconsistency in reports: Assessment report
was prepared by individuals manually, so the
nal reports were not consistent and critical
data points were missing from the nal report.
iON Visitation Solution
TCS iON helped Central Council of Indian Medicine for streamlining the visitation process with cloud
based iON Visitation Solution. The solution helped the council in automating various process and
minimizing human errors. It enabled end-to-end digitisation of the visitation process including online
collection of data from the visitors and automated generation of visitation reports.
iON Visitation Solution enhanced the credibility and relevance of the visitation process by faster
collation of data, reduction in time lag between visitation and the reports, standardization in data
collection, tighter control over process with efficient data sharing and archival.
Business Results
§ Time saving: The solution has reduced visitation cycle time from 6 months to 6 weeks. It has saved
considerable time and effort in collecting the information from the colleges and completing the
visitation process.
§ Less paper work: Due to the uploading of the audit documents and updating related information
online, it has reduced paper work a lot. There is less pain for the college management as well as to
the council.
§ No duplication: Coding procedure in the solution has removed the chances of duplication of
teachers in the visitation process.
§ One click retrieval: With one click they were able to take teacher’s data, with another click entire
college management data. There is now ease of data retrieval and more transparency.
TCS iON Visitation Solution worked with the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and helped them
to reimagine the visitation process for more than 340 of their affiliated educational institutions by
streamlining the visitation process in the below manner:
§ Online registration

§ Visitation record archival
§ Real time communication and status reporting
