Cell organisation in multicellular organisms occurs at multiple levels:
1) Cells combine to form tissues, tissues combine to form organs, organs combine to form systems, and systems combine to form whole organisms.
2) In animals, the main tissue types are epithelial, muscle, nerve, connective, and blood tissues. Epithelial tissues form protective barriers and glands. Muscle tissues enable movement. Nerve tissues transmit electrical signals. Connective tissues connect and support other tissues.
3) In plants, meristematic tissues are actively dividing cells that facilitate growth. Permanent tissues provide structure and include epidermal, ground, and vascular tissues. Epidermal tissues form outer layers, ground tissues include food
