1) Gear pumps use two meshing gears to generate pumping action. They are commonly used in low-pressure applications due to their long life, high efficiency and low cost.
2) External gear pumps have one driven gear and one idler gear that mesh to draw fluid into low-pressure areas and push it out of high-pressure areas. Internal gear pumps have a single internal gear meshing with a regular gear to pump fluid.
3) Lobe pumps are similar to gear pumps but use lobes instead of gears. They are quieter than gear pumps but show more pulsation.
