Problem # 1 A baseball rolls off a 0.70m high desk and strikes the floor 0.25m away from the base of the desk. How fast was the ball rolling?
Problem #2 A person standing at the edge of a cliff at Waimea bay kicks a stone over the edge with a speed of 18 m/s. The cliff is 52m above the water’s surface. How long does it take for the stone to fall to the water? With what speed does it strike the water?
Problem #3 Mr. Buelow wanted to measure the height of a O-building at JCHS. He stood 9.50 m from the base of the building; and he observed that his line of sight made an angle of 73.5° above the horizontal as he looked at the top of the building. What is the height of the tree?
Problem #4 A spy in a speed boat is being chased down a river by government officials in a faster craft. Just as the officials’ boat pulls up next to the spy’s boat, both boats reach the edge of a 5.0m waterfall. If the spy’s speed is 15m/s and the officials speed is 26 m/s, how far apart will the two vessels be when they land below the waterfall?
Problem #5 A quarterback throws a pass at an angle of 35° above the horizontal with an initial speed of 25 m/s. The ball is caught by the receiver 2.55 seconds later. Determine the distance the ball was thrown.
Problem #6 A golfer takes two putts to sink his ball in the hold once he is on the green. The first putt displaces the ball 6.0m east, and the second putt displaces the ball 5.4m south. What displacement would put the ball in the hole in one putt? (And at what direction?)
Problem #7 During a one-hour trip, a small boat travels 80.0 km north and then travels 60.0 km east. What is the boat's average speed during the one-hour trip?
Problem #8 A marble rolls off of a table that has a height of 1m. The marble has a horizontal velocity of 3 m/s. How far away will the marble land?
