CHAPTER 4
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS,
RESPONSE AND FIRE SAFETY
DEFINITION OF EMERGENCY
• Accident – unexpected event which cause damage and harm. Happens
by chance
• Emergency – an unforeseen combination of circumstances and the
resulting state that calls for immediate action
TYPE OF EMERGENCY
• Fire
• Explosion
• Hazardous material spills
• Natural disaster
BASIC ELEMENTS OF EMERGENCY
PREPAREDNESS AND MANAGEMENT
MEASURES
• Arrange the emergency management team
• Identifying accident scenarios and consequences of emergency
• Identify resources, equipment and facilities
• Develop plans and procedures
• The training of security forces
• Checking system
THE CONCEPT OF "FIRE TRIANGLE"
To understand how a fire extinguisher works, you should know a little about
fire
Four things need to be present at the same time to produce a flame:
1) Enough oxygen to keep burning
2) Enough heat to raise the temperature of the material to burn
3) Some types of fuels or flammable materials
4) An exothermic chemical reaction that produces heat
• The important thing to remember is this: If any of the
four missing, the fire will not occur or will be erased.
• Oxygen, heat, and fuel is often referred to as the "fire
triangle" added the fourth element, a chemical reaction, will
result in fire
• Fire safety, the most basic, is based on the principle of
keeping the supply of fuel and ignition sources separately
CLASSES OF FIRE
CLASS TYPE OF FIRE
A Normal flammable
B Flammable liquid and gas

PROPER & SAFE METHOD IN
DEPLOYING PORTABLE F.E.
PASS
• P - Pull - Pull the pin on the fire extinguisher
• A - Aim - Aim the extinguisher nozzle to cause fire
• S – Squeeze - Squeeze or press the handle
• S - Sweep - Sweep nozzle towards the cause of the fire.
