The nurse is initially portrayed as a supportive figure for Juliet who knows all the details of her life. She encourages Juliet's relationship with Romeo and helps the two lovers communicate in secret. However, after Romeo kills Juliet's cousin Tybalt, the nurse begins to see the relationship differently and advises Juliet to forget Romeo and marry Paris instead, looking out for Juliet's well-being rather than her wants. While intending to comfort and support Juliet, the nurse's actions ultimately enable the tragic outcome of the star-crossed lovers.
