This document presents findings from a study on the characteristics and health risks of female, male, and transgender sex workers in South Africa, revealing high HIV prevalence and a lack of updated data. It highlights the need for increased availability and acceptance of female condoms among sex workers and emphasizes that males and transgender individuals are notably more likely to engage in unprotected sex. The study concludes with a call for urgent implementation of sex work-specific health programs and policies to mitigate the risks faced by sex workers.
