Beth Rhines, the program director at Goodwin Conservation Center, led a group on an exercise to improve observational skills in nature. The group participated in silent activities like passing cups around a circle and finding natural objects to observe up close with their senses. Then the group went on a silent hike around a pond, noticing different sights, sounds and scents. Finally, each person found their own "sit spot" to sit quietly and observe the natural surroundings, bringing focus to small wildlife like ants and spiders. The goal was to experience nature through stillness rather than movement.
