- 2. WHAT’S CITES ABOUT? CITES or “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” protects over 5.800 species of animals and 30.000 species of plants in order to stop over-exploitation through international trade.
- 3. WHAT DO WE MEAN BY OVER-EXPLOITATION? Over-exploitation refers to harvesting a renewable resource constantly.This human economic activity takes organisms in larger numbers than their populations can withstand;it can actually lead to the destruction of the resource and even to its extinction.Although it doesn’t always mean unsustainability,it does have some effects on the species.
