- 9. The New York Yankees sweep the Atlanta Braves, winning the World Series in four games. In Super bowl XXXIII, the Denver Broncos defeat the Atlanta Falcons 34-19.
- 10. January 6,1999 Bob Newhart received is star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame February 19, 1999 Dennis Franz receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
- 11. President Clinton is acquitted by the U. S. Senate of impeachment charges relating to the sex and perjury scandal involving Monica Lewinsky.
- 12. September 8, 1999 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban , the third book in J.K. Rowling 's hugely popular Harry Potter series, is published in the United States.
