What's Happening? This presentation provides an overview for our upcoming class activities
Overview for Upcoming Unit Plan This presentation will inform you of the project we are starting in a couple of weeks. Our project is entitled "Lets Get Physically Fit" and will progress for approximately one month. The purpose of this action plan is to allow students to collaborate with parents and peers to create a personal fitness plan. The activities will be guided by the following standards:       Assess the body's response to exercise including, but not limited to, heart rate monitoring, fitness testing, respiration rate, and body composition      Design a personalized fitness plan
Expected Roles of Students and Parents Students will be responsible for creating a personal fitness plan while in groups. The plan will consist of daily workouts, activities, and a diet plan. After the plan is created, the students must follow the plan for 4 weeks. They must also keep a daily journal which contains their heart rates, weight, and muscle mass .  Parents will be responsible for providing support and encouraging them. You can help by preparing healthy foods. You can implement a daily walk before or after dinner. You can even do things such as rake leaves, play basketball, go to the park, or ride bikes. Anything to keep them active.
Role of the Teacher To inspire students to become more active and participate in sports and physical activity     To make sure that students understand the benefits of being physically active and eating healthy
Benefits of Project-Based Learning Provides learning opportunities for students   Allows students to build 21st century skills Provides instruction that meets students needs   Promotes critical thinking   Students will communicate, collaborate, and work together as a team    
Students Will Know Why are you healthy? What kind of activities/exercises do you do to stay active? What types of food do you eat to stay healthy? What are the benefits of being physically active? What foods have nutrients and are good for staying healthy? What are the results of being physically inactive and eating unhealthy? By the end of the lesson, students will know the purpose of a heart rate monitor. By the end of the lesson, students will know how to properly use a heart rate monitor. By the end of the lesson, students will know how to develop a personal fitness plan.
