This document discusses the classification of cancer. Cancers can be classified by their primary site of origin, histological or tissue type, grade, or stage. The main tissue types are carcinoma, sarcoma, myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma, and mixed types. Carcinoma accounts for 80-90% of cancers and affects epithelial tissues. Cancers can also be classified based on how differentiated or abnormal the cells appear compared to normal tissues, from well differentiated (grade 1) to undifferentiated (grade 4). Classification by stage uses TNM criteria to describe tumor size, node involvement, and metastasis.
