Project proposal title and date:
York 12th September
Main area of activity:
Film
Rationale:
Over the past 2 years I have gained a lot of skills that can help me through this project. I have
made many projects by now and so I know how to use a camera which is very useful, as I
have to be able to film because I want to make my vision perfect. The most important thing
I’ve learnt about though is how to use Adobe Premiere Pro. In this project editing is one of the
most important areas, and it’ll be what I spend most of my time on throughout production. I
have also spent a lot of time researching new techniques that I can do on Premier Pro so I
can use a wider variety of editing techniques and cuts or transitions that I’ve created myself. I
can use these new skills to make something that’s better than I’ve ever done before.
Previously, my editing has been more basic. For example, my first ever project on the course,
the Irn Bru advert, was the start of me trying new things when editing. Although basic, it was
really useful to me as it allowed me to have more freedom to create what I want. It was a
great starting point for me and since then my editing skill has only improved, all due to that
first project giving me freedom.
The first thing I ever made over a year ago is also very important to me. It was a short film
and although it wasn’t the best thing I’ve made, there were lots of different shots similar to
those that I use today. I still use this first project as inspiration if I don’t have any other ideas
for shots and the fact that I still use it is very useful to me.
Project Concept:
My concept is something simple that shows off York in the best way I can for it to appeal to
my target audience. The majority will be based around pubs because that is a big part of life
for younger people. Shots of different buildings both inside and out will be layered with music,
creating a music video element to it. Shots will change on the beat and the music will
arguably be one of the most important areas, as my editing will be built around it. When I am
editing, I want to try stuff that’s different. One of the ways I will do this is layer an old image of
York from many years ago underneath my current footage. I will then add holes in my footage
(which is positioned in exactly the same way as the old photos) to make a mix of the old York
and the current one. Another style I want to do is quick filters. They are only up for a second,
but it just looks different, the project is supposed to be out there and I think adding different
filters on beats for only a split second will make it different and as out there as the client is
looking for.
The only danger of my project is that it will be too boring. I have no story to it so it is at risk of
making people lose interest. To tackle this, I will need to use a wide variety of shots and
editing techniques, as well as not making it last too long or too short.
Audience Classification:
My audience doesn’t interest either gender. As it is basically an advert for York showing off all
the best looking places, it could appeal to anyone. My target audience is trying to interest 16-
24 year olds, however the majority would be 18 or over as I have a lot of focus on pubs and
bars. I don’t have a target for any particular sexuality either, however as it’s wanting people to
come to York, the majority of people who would see it are heterosexuals, as they make up
95% of the population. York is also a kind of expensive place. This is important as it affects
Bibliography:
Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Research  Look up various new techniques I haven’t
done before.
 Find out more about my demographic
 Look up statistics for the various subjects
that my project is focused on.
 Do some primary research, such as
conducting interviews, or a survey
 Analyse the results of the primary research
 Analyse some existing products
2 Idea Development &
Proposal
 Create a mindmap for different ideas for
production
 Analyse the mindmap, talking about what
would work and what wouldn’t
 Write a pre-proposal
 Make a mood board
 Analyse the mood board with the colour
the social grades for my audience classification. Because of the price of the city, my audience
would be a majority of C1/B classes, both middle class and lower middle class if they’re not
students.
Of the seven main types of Psychographics, Belonger is the type of person I would attract, as
they are most likely living in a small city, one like York so it wouldn’t be a big move. As they
are brand loyal and prefer UK made products, York could be for them. York has many
independent businesses that would attract this psychographic.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
The way I would review my work is through an evaluation presentation that I will do on the
last week of the project. I will go through all my work, including my planning and research
presentations and talk about the pros and cons of everything. This is a very important section
at it will let me know what I can do better next time. I could now go through my evaluations
from last year to improve this one, which is why they’re such a key part of the project.
 schemes etc.
 Find out which song is best to use
 Resources and costs
3 Planning  Talk in more detail about what I want to do,
for example, which fonts would work
 Colour Schemes
 Shotlist
 Contingency Planning
 Health and Safety
 Production Schedule
4 Production  Week one I will spend the week getting
shots. This will be done outside of college so
while I’m in lessons I will start making my
music. I want to make something that sounds
really good, so I will spend a lot of time on
this. I won’t start editing straight away but I
just want to have the footage sorted out as
early as possible.
5 Production  Week two I will still be making my music as I
want to make it as good as possible, If I finish
it early, then I can start the editing process
which will arguably be the longest part.
6 Production  The third week is also going to be spent
editing. I think it will take at least two weeks
to finish, as there’s a lot of techniques that
I’ve never done before.
7 Production  The final week I’m hoping to finish editing on
the first day. After that and everything is
uploaded, I might be able to start evaluating
on the last day.
8 Evaluation  Evaluate each different powerpoint
 Talk about the time management
 Technical qualities
 Aesthetic qualities
 Feedback
