THE CLOUD
 Data centre hardware and software
 Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider perceived the
idea during the 1960s
 Basic idea – “Storage, management and
protection of the data stored at some remote
location”
PAY-AS-YOU-GO
 Conceived & Developed by IBM & Microsoft during 1990s
 Hassle-free working experience for the consumer
 No worries about management & protection
 Ease of access through multiple devices
 Pay on hourly or daily basis
ADVANTAGES
 Cost affordability & viability
 On-demand service disposal to the
consumer
 A network that has a broad-base &
a less time consuming procedure
 Enhanced Scalability & Flexibility
 Location independency
TYPES OF CLOUD
1. Private Cloud - works in particular organisation
2. Private Cloud - accessible by the general public
3. Community Cloud - works for a group of people
having similar interests
4. Hybrid Cloud - mixture of both public and private
cloud systems
INTERNATIONAL IMPLICATIONS
 Prevention of software piracy & theft
 Reduction in business cost
 Multiple storage & backup options
 Automated maintenance, enhanced security & auto-
scaling
 Emerging career scopes
CLOUD SERVICE MODELS
 Model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand
network access to a shared pool of
configurable computing resources
 Types –
• Infrastructure as a Service
• Platform as a Service
• Software as a Service
 IaaS – used by the system administrators with maximum access to
resources and servers & independency to choose the operating
system.
 PaaS – a platform giving a run time environment to develop,
manage and host the applications, this is to deign, develop and
host.
 SaaS - software licensing model in which a centrally hosted
software is licensed on subscription basis.
BENEFITS OF SERVICE MODELS
 Scalability
 Cost efficient Virtual storage
 Desktop virtualization
 Virtual hosting services
 Testing on the cloud server instead in a data
centre
SETBACKS
 Vendor lock-in
 Downtime
 Cost efficiency
 Security and privacy
 Vulnerability to attacks
THANKYOU
