This document provides an example of optimizing a concrete mix design using three aggregate optimization charts: the Coarseness Factor chart, the 0.45 Power chart, and the Percent Retained chart. The example combines two coarse aggregates, one fine aggregate, and calculates the gradation percentages. It then uses the gradation data to generate the three charts. The charts can help evaluate if the aggregate blend will provide workability and durability for concrete mixes. While this example blend may be reasonable, further trial batches are needed to confirm the mix properties. Optimizing aggregates can improve concrete mixes with potential cost savings from less cement usage.
