What will Happen When Christ Return?
"For the Lord himself will come down from
heaven, with a loud command, with the
voice of the archangel and with the
trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ
will rise first. After that, we who are still
alive and are left will be caught up with
them in the clouds to meet the lord in the
What will Happen When Christ Return?
What is eschatology?
 Specifically, the study Centered on the return of Christ, the
millennium (or “thousand years”), the final judgment, the eternal
punishment of unbelievers and eternal reward of believers, and
life with God in the new heaven and new earth.
 Studies of these events are called studies of the “last things,” or
“eschatology” (from the Greek eschatos, meaning “last”).
What will Happen When Christ Return?
Does anyone know the exact time of Jesus’ return?
If so who?
• Jesus told his disciples that he would return to earth a second time: “I will come again
and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (John 14:3). It is clear from
this and other passages about His Return.
• (such as Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians. 4:16; Hebrews 9:28; 2 Peter 3:10; 1 John 3:2) that
Jesus himself will return, these passages also make it clear that “no one
knows” (Mark13:32) the exact time of that return, for “the Son of Man is coming at an
hour you do not expect” (Matt. 24:44).
• Yes, the Father knows the timing of Jesus’ return: “36 But on that day and hour no one
knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” (Matt. 24:36)
What will Happen When Christ Return?
What are some of the signs that Jesus is returning
soon?
 “The gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations” (Mark 13:10; see also Matt. 24:14).
 “There will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation that God
created until now and never will be. And if the Lord has not cut short the days, no human
being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days”
(Mark 13:19–20).
 “False Christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray,
if possible, the elect” (Mark 13:22; Matt. 24:23–24)
After that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars
will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken” (Mark 13:24–25;
What will Happen When Christ Return?
The Victorious King
Although there are differences of opinion on the details of the “End Times” what do most
will be the final ending.
 It is perhaps not surprising that Christians have differences over their views of the future. This
is due in part to the subject matter:
 The future is somewhat unclear to us since it has not yet happened! But regardless of the
timing of Christ’s return, all Christians believe that the final victory of Christ over Satan
(described in Revelation 20:7–10) will occur in the future.
 They believe that Satan “will be released from his prison” (Rev. 20:7) to gather together for
battle those he has deceived. At that final battle, Jesus will defeat Satan and his army once and
for all.
 At the end of the battle, Satan will be “thrown into the lake of fire and sulphur” where he “will
be tormented day and night forever and ever” (Rev. 20:10).
 At the end of the final battle, Jesus, the victorious king, will execute his final judgment. And
then, he will reign forever and ever.
What Is The Final Judgement?
“For we must all appear before the
judgment seat of Christ, that each one
may receive the things done in the
body, according to what he has done,
whether good or bad.”
What Is The Final Judgement?
The Final Judgment: Means, The Day of the Lord.
Judgment Day, also known as the Final Judgment.
It is the very last thing that happens before God destroys the old
heaven and the old earth, which are corrupt on account of sin.
Before He creates His new heaven and new earth, He has to do away
with anything that could bring sin into the new creation.
 The devil has just been cast into the lake of fire, where the beast and
the false prophet (Antichrist) have already been since they were
defeated when Jesus returned before the beginning of the
millennium.
 This is to be the eternal retribution for their sin and rebellion against
God. Now the time has come for God to judge who is to join them in
the lake of fire, and who is worthy of a place on the new heaven and
What Is The Final Judgement?
We will all face a final judgment with the rest of the world.
“We will all stand before the judgment seat of God”
Romans 14: 10
When Jesus says, “Whoever hears my word and believes him
who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into
judgment, but has passed from death to life,”. Means
that we will not be condemned in the final judgment,
because our sentence has already been passed—not
guilty.
2 Corinthians 5: 10
What Is The Final Judgement?
So why are we there at the last judgment?
The picture is given in Revelation 20:12-15
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne,
and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which
is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written
in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave
up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead
who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them,
according to what they had done.
Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is
the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not
What Is The Final Judgement?
Excluded from judgment?
Excluded from this judgment on Judgment Day will be those who are
in the bride of Christ.
The bride of Christ are all those who have purified themselves as He is pure
and has been conformed to His image. (Romans 8:29)
They cleanse and purify themselves of all sin and are true followers of
Christ. “The Bride”
They have already stood before the judgment seat of Christ while they were
in the situations of their daily lives.
They have let God’s light shine in their hearts, pointing out the sin and
unrighteousness that needed to be dealt with.
They have, of their own free will, acknowledged their sin, taken up a battle
against it, and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus.
More than just receiving forgiveness for sin, they have used the power
available in the Spirit to overcome it.
What Is The Final Judgement?
The opening of the books
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the
earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And
And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were
opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the
dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written
in the books. (Revelation 20:11-15)
God’s accounts are so carefully kept that, as Jesus said, we must even give
account for every idle word. Each of us writes a book about our life.
Everything we do is recorded. Imagine what it will be like when God begins
to page through our memories on Judgment Day.
If we have sinned, we have the opportunity while in this life to repent and
get forgiveness. Then God wipes it away, never to be remembered again.
Then when the books are opened we will only have to give account for good
works.
What is Heaven?
How does Heaven describe?
 The Bible promises an entirely renewed creation.
• It will be “the new heavens and the new earth” that God will make (Isa. 66:22), a
place so rich and good and new that “the former things”—like death, pain,
sorrow, and suffering—“shall not be remembered or come to mind” (Isa. 65:17).
 It is a place where heaven and earth will join together (Rev. 21:2), and a voice from
God’s throne will announce, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man”.
• He will dwell with them and they will be his people, and God himself will be with
them as their God” (Rev. 21:3).
What is Heaven?
The Renewed Heaven and Earth:
 What is Heaven?
• The Bible frequently refers to the place God currently dwells as
“heaven.” For example, Jesus taught his disciples to pray, “Our Father
in heaven” (Matt. 6:9).
• Peter says Jesus “has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of
God” (1 Peter 3:22).
• Heaven is the place where God most fully makes known his presence
to bless. Although God is everywhere, his presence to bless is most
clearly seen in heaven, and his glory is most clearly seen in heaven.
Heaven is the one place where everyone worships Him.
What is Heaven?
What does the Bible say about it?
• Heaven is the dwelling place of God, where all those who believe in the promises
of God go awaiting Christ’s return and the New Heaven and the New Earth
Heaven is a real place described in the Bible. The word “heaven” is found 276
times in the New Testament alone.
Scripture refers to three heavens.
The apostle Paul was “caught up to the third heaven,” but he was prohibited from
revealing what he experienced there (2 Corinthians 12:1-9). If a third heaven exists,
there must also be two other heavens.
1. The first is most frequently referred to in the Old Testament as the “sky” or the
“firmament.” This is the heaven that contains clouds, the area that birds fly through.
2. The second heaven is interstellar/outer space, which is the abode of the stars,
planets, and other celestial objects (Genesis 1:14-18).
3. The third heaven, the location of which is not revealed, is the dwelling place of
God. Jesus promised to prepare a place for true Christians in heaven (John 14:2).
What is Heaven?
Heaven is a place of “no mores.”
There will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more sorrow.
(Revelation 21:4).
There will be no more separation, because death will be
conquered (Revelation 20:6).
The best thing about heaven is the presence of our Lord and
Savior. (1 John 3:2).
We will be face to face with the Lamb of God who loved us and
sacrificed Himself so that we can enjoy His presence in heaven for
eternity..
What is HELL?
Hell
• Definition - Hell is a place of eternal conscious punishment for the wicked.
• (1). It is a place of outer darkness (Matthew 25:30).
• (2). It is an eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41).
• (3). It is an eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46).
• (4). It is where the "worm does not die and the fire is not quenched" (Mark 9:48).
Why is there a denial of an eternal conscious punishment?
• What is taught instead? Annihilationism - one suffers torment for a while
and then God makes it so they don't exist.
What is God's heart toward eternal punishment?
• Ezekiel 33:11 Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD,
I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from
from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die,
people of Israel?'
