COMBUSTION TUTORIAL

    1. A gas is following composition by volume:
       H2 = 20%, CH4 6%, CO 22%, CO2 4%, O2 4% and N2 44%. 20% excess air is used. Find
       the weight of air actually supplied per m3 of this gas.
       M.w of air= 28.97 gm/mol

    2. Calculate the volume of air required for the complete combustion of 1 litre of CO.

    3. Calculate the volume of air required for complete combustion of 1 m3 of gaseous fuel
       having the composition CO 46%, CH4 10%, C2H2 2%, N2 % and remaining being CO2.

    4. Calculate the mass of air needed for complete combustion of 5 Kg of coal containing
       80% carbon, 15% hydrogen and rest is oxygen.

    5. The percentage composition by mass of coal sample is as follows:
       C=90%, H=3.5%, O=3%, N=1%, S=0.5% and rest=ash%
       Calculate the theoretical volume of oxygen and air required at 27 deg C and 1 atm
       pressure for the combination of 1Kg of coal. (R= 0.082 lit-atm/K.mole)

    6. Calculate the weight and volume of air required to burn 1Kg of carbon

    7. A petrol sample contains 84% carbon and 16% Hydrogen by weight. Calculate the
       minimum air foe complete combustion of 1kg of petrol.
