Editor's Notes

  • #3: ComDesign was formed as a Florida corporation in February 1984. The principals who founded the corporation are Mr. Robert Wilkin, President, and Mr. Stephen Shevlin, Vice President. Both officers maintain the same positions to this day.
  • #4: Present facilities include offices in Charlotte, North Carolina, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Orlando, Florida and our corporate office in St. Petersburg, Florida.
  • #6: Our team of System Designer Engineers, Installers, Project Managers and Installation Technicians have successfully completed customized projects in a wide range of challenging environments throughout the United States and in the Caribbean. ComDesign does not utilize subcontractors for any portion of our cable installations. All installation personnel are trained, uniformed, full-time employees. ComDesign vehicles with appropriate signage are issued to on-site crew leaders.
  • #7: Whether installing a new network based technology or migrating from existing analog products, ComDesign provides cost effective solutions to bring the benefits of IP based technologies to customers in a broad range of industries. HealthCare Retail & Rollouts Financial Education Manufacturing Data Center/ Call Centers Hospitality Government Sports Arena
  • #8: ComDesign is a total technology solution provider specializing in design, installation and maintenance of IP based technologies including surveillance, access control, telephony, network cabling, wireless networking, speech privacy systems and in-building wireless (DAS).
  • #9: List of our Vendor Partners Cameras ACTi Arecont Axis Bosch Digital Watchdog Hikvision IQ inVision Mobotix Panasonic Samsung Sony Vivotek
  • #10: Aeroturbine offers the aviation industry access to one of the world’s largest pools of certified aircraft engines and airframe components. By leveraging their expertise and financial strength, they offer their customers solutions tailored to their operational and financial goals – regardless of the size of their fleets. To keep up with its expanding business Aeroturbine recently signed one of the largest industrial leases to date, taking a 264,074 square foot site in Miramar, Florida.  The new space will serve as the company’s corporate headquarters, with offices in Texas, Arizona, Singapore and the United Kingdom.  The space features 32-foot clear height ceilings, 45,000 square feet of office space and over 200,000 square feet of air conditioned warehouse space. Aeroturbine sought a future proof, scalable video surveillance system, complemented by the best camera technology available, to meet its current and future needs.  Aeroturbine wanted to take advantage of the newest networked digital technology using IP video surveillance paired with high performance megapixel cameras. Aeroturbine chose the Arecont camera line to support their corporate campus there are a total of sixty four cameras throughout the facility focusing on the manufacturing floor, employee entrances, common areas and lobby area. By choosing megapixel cameras, Aeroturbine requires fewer cameras on the network that use less bandwidth and provide superior coverage. A NUUO Titan NVR was selected for storage, NUUO Titan NVR are Linux-based open platform recording solution. It is built on Linux Foundation, with cross-platform Windows and MAC client software. NUUO supports over 2300 camera models from over 100 vendors.
  • #11: The new corporate headquarters purchased by Consolidated Label consists of 40,000 square feet of office space and 140,000 square feet of warehouse space. The property was considered too large to be covered by roaming guards. A high-resolution video system integrated with an access control system was needed to address the security challenges to protect and monitor staff and processes. After a detailed assessment of the facility was performed to determine secure areas, a comprehensive integrated design was deployed utilizing access control, megapixels cameras, wireless lockset devices, paging system and video management software. A Paxton Net2 access control system was utilized to control access to main gates, lobby, and other core building entrances. Consolidated wanted the ability to manage the flow of staff and visitors due to the fact of having to manage such a large scale site. Once the system was installed and Consolidated saw how simple it was to use, the decision was made to extend the system to more doors around the site. In addition to the access control system, wireless mechanical locksets by Assa Abloy Aperio were deployed for areas where installing cables for access control were cost prohibitive. Aperio is a smart technology that enables mechanical locks to be wirelessly linked to a new or existing access control system. To integrate the IP video surveillance system and networked access control system, Milestone Video management software was selected for the its scalability, flexibility and open architecture. Areas of camera coverage focused on the manufacturing floor area for the benefit of improved quality control, lobby, employee gates, and main side entrance/exit with the focus on security, situation awareness and life safety. The loading dock area was covered for the purpose of protecting staff, equipment and freight.
  • #12: ComDesign is the sole cabling infrastructure provider for the Home Shopping Network Corporate Campus in St. Petersburg, FL. ComDesign has technicians permanently assigned to the facility and works closely with HSN’s staff to complete daily work tickets as well as project work. The campus is comprised of 12 individual buildings on site as well as several off site facilities requiring service. Campus cabling consists of typical workstation locations of both Category 5 and 6 cables. In addition, ComDesign installs and maintains HSN’s data center cabling consisting of singlemode and multimode fiber optic cabling as well as copper connectivity in a raised floor environment.
  • #13: Publix needed a 120+ location rollout with an 18 month timetable for completion. ComDesign’s collaboration with Publix allowed us to schedule the locations and reduce the completion timetable from 18 months to 9 months. The rollouts were executed as night time conversion, completing each store in 2 nights and at a rate of 22 stores a week. The first night the crews pulled the new cable. The second night crew removed the old cabling from rack and replaced with new cabling. Then all hardware was reconnected.
  • #14: ComDesign performed various cabling upgrades to HCA facilities in both Florida and Georgia to allow HCA to implement state-of-the-art technology and improve patient services throughout their organization. Fiber Optic ComDesign has replaced the facilities’ outdated, multimode fiber backbone with new Belden armored, single-mode fiber optic cable in locations throughout Florida and Georgia. This upgrade allows larger bandwidth for future applications. Category 6 Cabling ComDesign has installed Belden Category 6 station cable in existing facilities to replace the older, outdated Category 5 cable. This upgrade in cabling allows HCA to implement new applications such as PACS and wireless locations throughout the facility and leaves the infrastructure prepared for new technology yet to come.
  • #15: ComDesign installed a complete cabling retrofit for the Belk Data Center, located in Charlotte, North Carolina along with the installation of a 300,000 sq. ft. Belk Fulfillment Center in Pineville, North Carolina and a 540,000 sq. ft. Belk Fulfillment Center in Jonesville, SC. The Data Center supports four (4) distribution centers, three (3) division offices, the corporate offices, and three hundred (300) plus department stores. All re-wiring work was done during normal business hours and conversions were done on Sunday nights. There were no outages to any of the facilities. The retrofit design was a joint effort between ComDesign, HP, CommScope, and Anixter. In the existing Data Center, ComDesign installed 36 miles of Uniprise Category 6 cable. In 2009 ComDesign began phase 1 of the Fulfillment Center project by identifying locations for network closets for full coverage of the facility. Determining the need for 4 IDF’s and an MDF. ComDesign installed fiber to each network closet as well as an additional redundant fiber backbone. In 2011 phase 2 was underway. ComDesign relocated the original Disaster Recovery network closet and installed 4 new IDF’s; connecting these additional closets with fiber and redundant fiber back to the original MDF. Finishing out the project with installing and patching the new network switches. In 2011 ComDesign was tasked to identify additional locations for network closets for full coverage of the Jonesville Fulfillment Center. We tested and re-terminated existing fiber as well as installed new fiber and redundant fiber backbone to the new existing network closets.
