Partial Information Center Shutdown
The Information Center
at Arnn Elementary School
is scheduled to undergo a partial shutdown
from Nov. 27 through Dec. 20
that will affect book checkouts
for all Arnn students with a library account there.

This is being done in order to upgrade
the school‟s cataloging system.
The last day for book checkouts
before the shutdown will be Nov. 27,
and all books must be turned in by Dec. 6.

Books will then be unavailable for checkout
from Dec. 2 through 20.
However, the tables and computers

Holiday Lighting Policy
The Directorate of Public Works
has a holiday lighting policy
that will be in effect
from Dec. 5 through Jan. 3, 2014,
in an effort to conserve energy.

During this time, holiday lights may be
turned on from 5 to 10 p.m.
On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day
and New Year‟s Day, however,
lights may be
turned on from 5 p.m. to midnight.

Illuminated displays are not allowed on roofs,
gutters or downspouts,
and no drilling of concrete or metal structures
is permitted.

All holiday decorations, including fasteners,
must be removed after the holiday season.

The Command Channel and the
Morale, Welfare and Recreation channel
on Camp Zama are now available in high definition.
Sagamihara Family Housing Area will receive
the HD upgrade at a later dater to be announced.

The listing for these HD channels is forthcoming
and will be announced as soon as it is available.

The HD channels will require viewers
to re-scan the channels on their TVs
in order to view them.

Each TV model has a slightly different
channel-scanning process,
but it can generally be done
by following these steps:

1. Press the “Menu” button on your
converter

2. Go to “Setup” or “Settings.”

Guidance on Transition to Heating Season
Due to the forecasted low temperatures
and the budgetary cuts mandated by Congress,
the Directorate of Public Works will provide
intermittent heating through early November 2013.

Heating will be provided based on
the following criteria for five consecutive days:
- 68 degrees or below from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- 55 degrees or below from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Following the intermittent heating period,
DPW will transition into “No Heating/No Cooling”
in order to perform
the necessary preventive maintenance,
checks and services required on the heating systems
throughout U.S. Army Garrison Japan
installations prior to the heating period.

Based on historical weather records,
intermittent heating period is projected to begin
on or around early November.

Reminder of Pet Owners‟ Responsibilities
The following list of responsibilities for pet owners
living on Camp Zama, Sagamihara Family
Housing Area and Sagami Depot was released
by the Housing Management Division:
- Sponsors are responsible for cleaning the areas
used by their pets.

- If kept outside, the pet‟s area must be policed daily
to prevent a buildup of trash and fecal material.

- Owners must clean up waste left by their pet
during walks.
- Fecal droppings must be disposed of in sealed
plastic bags (preferably double bags) and be
placed in garbage receptacles.
- Un-bagged waste must not be placed in garbage
receptacles.

Are you a newcomer to Japan?
Need to obtain your local drivers permit?

essential tool for meeting that challenge.

• Consider what to do, where to go, what to take.
• Plan for members with disabilities or special needs.
