What is new from what we currently teach in our grade level? What is NOT in the Common Core that we currently teach?
*We use more visual strategies and will need to incorporate mental strategies. Concrete graphs
*The terminology will change from doubles to equal addends. Calendar work
*An in-depth understanding of place value representation Probability
*Prove even and odd by manipulating objects Patterns
*Develop an even number equation that has a even sum
*Write an equation showing area of equal addends as a foundations for
multiplication.

Number & Operations in Base Ten
*Understand a three numbers’ proper place value for each digit.
*Read, write and identify expanded form for numbers to 1000.
*Look at regrouping as the addition of a digit’s value instead of column addition.
We plan to move the three digit chapters from the end of the book to the first
grading period. Once we have completed 2 digit regrouping we will move to 3
digit regrouping. This is our attempt to begin to meet the new core standards
that focus heavily on place value.

  • 19. 9/28/2011 S.I.P. Day 2nd Grade Operations & Algebraic Thinking What is new from what we currently teach in our grade level? What is NOT in the Common Core that we currently teach? *We use more visual strategies and will need to incorporate mental strategies. Concrete graphs *The terminology will change from doubles to equal addends. Calendar work *An in-depth understanding of place value representation Probability *Prove even and odd by manipulating objects Patterns *Develop an even number equation that has a even sum *Write an equation showing area of equal addends as a foundations for multiplication. Number & Operations in Base Ten *Understand a three numbers’ proper place value for each digit. *Read, write and identify expanded form for numbers to 1000. *Look at regrouping as the addition of a digit’s value instead of column addition. We plan to move the three digit chapters from the end of the book to the first grading period. Once we have completed 2 digit regrouping we will move to 3 digit regrouping. This is our attempt to begin to meet the new core standards that focus heavily on place value.
