1) The SEC filed a complaint against Boston Trading and Research (BTR), Ahmet Akyil, and Craig Karlis alleging they defrauded investors of approximately $40 million in a foreign currency trading scheme.
2) BTR represented it would trade investor funds profitably with a stop-loss program to limit losses, but Akyil and Karlis misappropriated funds for personal use and concealed trading losses from investors.
3) In September 2008, Akyil incurred significant trading losses beyond authorized limits, causing BTR's collapse, yet continued trading and using new investor funds in an attempt to recoup losses.
