The Battle Of The Uss Maine
On April 19th, 1898, the United States declared war on Spain. Over the next three months the United
States, along with Cuban Rebels waged war against the Spanish forces in hopes of returning the
Cuban lands back to its people. President McKinley who was pressured into war by yellow press, sent
American forces into battle which ultimately led to the birth of a western hemispheric super power,
the United States. The sinking of the USS Maine, the use of yellow press journalism, and the national
uproar and motivation is what drove the Americans to victory. Valeriano Weyler, the Spanish General
in Cuba, started a campaign called Subjugation or Death. This bloody campaign was Spain s attempt
to force the local people into slavery. Filled with concentration camps, burning villages and murdering
Cubans, this campaign took the lives of over 200,000 Cuban people. Since Spain was aware that the
US had sympathy towards the Cuban rebels this endangered the lives of American citizens living
there. The USS Maine was built in 1888 and was seen as advanced American battleship modeled after
advanced European designs. President McKinley while keeping a close eye on the events unfolding in
his neighboring country, sent the USS Maine to the island of Key West, only 90 miles from Havana,
Cuba. The USS Maine was sent in anticipation of an evacuation of American s from Cuba should
things get worse. In January of 1898 rioting broke out in Cuba which led to the dispatch of the USS

Clockwork Orange Images
How would you feel if, no matter whether you were good or bad, you still could not fit in society, no
matter how monstrous the society was. By examining Anthony Burgess s, A Clockwork Orange, one
can see that the image of the prison, the imagery of the treatment, and the irony of life after the

negative effects on individuals. These three scenarios demonstrate Alex s transformation, and how this
impending transformation affects him and his role in society, and the government s control on him.

The absolute most critical issue in this decision battle is the economy, with the environment coming

Vatican II And The Church
On the eve of Vatican II, the Church struggled with the maximalist interpretation of the two dogmas;
at the same time, Vatican II took up the concerns of the minority bishops as a bridge in order to
discuss further the compatibility of the dogma of infallibility with a communion ecclesiology. The
work of Vatican II has remained a building site, whose attempts to end Vatican centralization by
means of its teachings on collegiality. The challenges that Vatican II needs to deal with are two major
concerns: to rebel against centralization, and to bring the church out of its ghetto into the modern
world. Lumen Gentium offers very little attention to the two concerns, and the appearance of the
phrase hierarchical communion weakens the idea of communion without actually saying anything
new. After Vatican II, Pottmeyer observes, The fear of a shared governance by bishops had remained.
For example, in 1965, Pope Paul VI established the synod of bishops and published the norms for its
operation. This form of permanent participation of the bishops in the leadership of the church also
made many of the council fathers disappointed. Fifty years after Vatican II, the leadership struggle
remains by unsuccessfully overcoming and reconciling with tradition and former dogmas. According
to the biblical and patristic concept, the development of a primacy in communion is to move beyond
centralization to a restoration of the communion of churches within the unity of the

The Philippine-American War
This was America s first true colonial war as a world power. After defeating Spain in Cuba and in the
Philippines in 1898, the U.S. purchased the Philippines, Puerto Rico and several other islands from the
Spanish. However, the Filipinos had been fighting a bloody revolution against Spain since 1896 and
had no intention of becoming a colony of another imperialist power. In February of 1899, fighting
broke out between the occupying American Army and the Filipino forces. The basic causes of the
Philippine American War can be found in the U.S. government s quest for an overseas empire and the
desire of the Filipino people for freedom.
Following the surrender of the Spanish colonial government in the Philippines to American military
forces in August 1898, tensions developed between U.S. and Filipino forces near Manila. The ... Show

known for good reason as Hell Roarin Jake, enraged by a guerrilla massacre of U.S. troops, launched a
retaliatory campaign of such indiscriminate fierceness that he was court martialed and forced to retire.
The impact of the U.S. war in the Philippines continued for three and a half years before President
Theodore Roosevelt declared it over in July 1902, even though fighting continued in outlying islands
for another decade. To keep the brutal nature of the war hidden from the American public, the
McKinley and Roosevelt administrations engaged in censorship, official denial, media spin,
impressive generalities, and intimidation of war critics. Many citizens nonetheless challenged the

Key Theories Of Learning
Learning theories are conceptual frameworks that describe how information is absorbed, processed
and retained during learning. Theories of learning explain how people learn and can help teachers to
understand the meaning of things and review effectively and confidently their practice accordingly
(Wilson,2009). The main theories of learning are behaviourism, cognitivism and humanism.
Behaviourism is based on the idea that people respond to things around them. Behaviour is learned
from things seen around them or from the environment and that learning and ability to learn requires a
change in behaviour. The key figures of behaviourism are P.Pavlov, S.Freud, J.B.Watson, B.F.Skinner.
Cognitivism is based on the idea that learning is a process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Rogers(1959)only when a person is free from frustration and external impositions can
grow and develop ,setting his/her own goals, following universal values, such as honesty, love,
responsibility and autonomy. Rogers idea suggest that an external and objective reality does not exist
and individuals observe the world in their own way, having their own reality and behaving
accordingly to it. He emphasised the relationship between teacher and students, recommending a
climate of respect, trust and empathy. These ideas emphasising that the teacher should always treat
learners as unique individuals and listen to them. Maslow stressed the importance of positive
experience in order to reach autonomy and personal growth. He stated that self actualization requires
an accommodating and enabling environment, responsibility, maturity and achievement of certain
needs in a hierarchical order (Neto,2015).Based on these concepts Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs

such as self confidence and appreciation from others, self actualization needs such as discovering and

How Does Priestley Present Eric In An Inspector Calls
How does Priestley present the character of Eric in An Inspector Calls?
In the play The inspector calls written by Presley, the story is set in 1912, and describes a family in the
middle class. Eric, the son of Mr. Birling is one of the key characters in the play
Eric is characterized as an irresponsible character. From the play She treated me as if i was a kid. .
Eric is portrayed as an irresponsible character, from his foolish acts, and him being drunk. Being
drunk shows that he enjoys the time being loose from life, not willing to take more responsibility, and
trying not facing the reality. Eric was having a hard time, with pressure from his father and society, he
tries to escape those expectations by being drunk, which is an evidence of not being responsible. From
the quote, being treated as if a kid, shows that Eric from other people s perspective he is still a child,
which shows he is irresponsible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Drones In The Middle East
Another significant reason for the use of drones in the Middle East is because they have proven to be
an invaluable way to keep our ground troops safe. According to Oestergaard, the MQ 1B Predator
drone has a range of 777 miles and a maximum flight time of 40 hours while carrying two Hellfire
missiles. The MQ 9A Reaper drone has a range of 1,151 miles and a maximum flight time of 30 hours.
When it has a full payload of four Hellfire missiles and two laser guided bombs it has a maximum
flight time of fourteen hours (Oestergaard 5 6). The lengthy flight time and catastrophic payload is a
lifeline for our troops on the ground. These drones can be used for both surveillance and direct contact
situations. For example, if a special forces team ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scott Shane quotes Micah Zenko in his article when he says ... a total of eight Americans have been
killed in drone strikes. Of those, only one, the American cleric Anwar al Awlaki, who joined Al Qaeda
in Yemen and was killed in 2011, was identified and deliberately targeted (Shane, Zenko 3). Shane is
correct when he says that drones should not target Americans, but he fails to mention why they were
targeted. These eight Americans were killed because, they were engaged in hostile activity towards the
United States. Awlaki was a part of Al Qaeda and was actively plotting to take down the United States.
The other seven Americans were not innocent, these people were killed in the blast of drone strikes
that were targeting enemy combatants. They were not hostages, but they were still in the immediate
vicinity of they hostiles. The other seven were just like Awlaki, they were there to join one of the
terrorist groups we are at war with. That is the only way that those citizens were that close to those
enemies. The second argument against the use of drones is that drone pilots are at risk of developing
psychological disorders. Lindsay Warrior, the author of Drones and Targeted Killing , says that [m]uch
of the discussion surrounding drones emphasizes the fact that their use reduces the risk of U.S.

Agency Costs and Financial Decision-Making
Agency Costs and Financial Decision Making
The Concept
An agency relationship is a contract under which one or more persons (the principal(s)) engage
another person (the agent) to perform some service on their behalf which involves delegating some
decision making authority to the agent. If both parties to the relationship are utility maximizers and
they may have divergent goals and objectives, and there is good reason to believe that the agent will
not always act in the best interests of the principal (Jensen, Michael C., and William H. Meckling.

In the majority of large publicly traded corporations, agency conflicts are potentially quite significant
because the firm s managers generally own only a small percentage of the common stock. Therefore,
shareholder wealth maximization could be subordinated to an assortment of other managerial goals.
For instance, managers may have a fundamental objective of maximizing the size of the firm. By
creating a large, rapidly growing firm, executives increase their own status, create more opportunities
for lower and middle level managers and salaries, and enhance their job security because an
unfriendly takeover is less likely. As a result, incumbent management may pursue diversification at
the expense of the shareholders who can easily diversify their individual portfolios simply by buying
shares in other companies. (http://www.referenceforbusiness.com/encyclopedia/AAr/Agency

Managers can be encouraged to act in the stockholders best interests through incentives, constraints,
and punishments. These methods, however, are effective only if shareholders can observe all of the
actions taken by managers. A moral hazard problem, whereby agents take unobserved actions in their
own self interests, originates because it is infeasible for shareholders to monitor all managerial
actions. To reduce the moral hazard problem, stockholders must incur agency costs.

Analysis Of The Article Living On The Border Essay
In its most basic definition, the U.S. Mexico Border is a 2000 mile line that divides the United States
and Mexico. However, those who spend their lives experiencing the concept of the border,
acknowledge that the U.S. Mexico Border is more than just a line. It s an epicenter of; historical,
political, social, economic, and cultural affairs that influence people on both countries. In this essay, I
will be discussing the endogeneity effect between the border and its people and how I influence this
phenomenon. Historically speaking, the endogeneity effect between the border and its people began in
1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and it wasn t until the Gadsden Purchase of 1854 that
gave the border its current form. In the article entitled Living on the Border: A Wound That Will Not
Heal, the author, Norma E. Cantu states that the pain and joy of the borderlands come from a wound
that will not heal and yet is forever healing. Said quote summarizes Cantu s observations that were
influenced by the creation of the U.S. Mexico border. One of most talked about issues to those who
live in on the U.S. Mexico Border is the economy. The economic relationship between the United
States and Mexico began in the colonial era, but it was not formalized and strengthen until the North
American Free Trade Agreement was enacted and ratified by both countries, with the addition of
Canada, in 1993. Mexican government made it clear that the enhancement of foreign direct

Coral Harbor Research Paper
I am Coral and I live about 5000 feet below sea level in the Coral Sea. During the week of May 4 8,
1942, the first air sea battle in history took place as I watched from below. Japan was looking to
control the Coral Sea by taking all of New Guinea and the Solomon Islands to remove all of the Allied
bases between Japan and Australia. They also wished to take over and destroy the American navy s
aircraft carriers since they were not able to do so in the Battle at Pearl Harbor. On the 3rd of May, the
Japanese occupied Tulagi island and set up a seaplane base. The next day, the Allied forces, led by
Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher, launched strikes against Tulagi. The attack eliminated the Japanese
use of the base which sparked the beginning of this battle. The Yorktown sunk a Japanese destroyer
and five merchant ships and join the Lexington later that day. May 6th, Australia spotted the Japanese
but failed to shoot it down. They both continued to search for each other unsuccessfully due to partial
visibility in the area of operations. Admiral Fletcher decided to separate his forces so that one was
more susceptible to Japanese air attack without being under any coverage. Although, neither American
force was successful in finding the Japanese forces, the Japanese aircraft was able to find and sink
several U.S. ships and aircrafts. On May 8th, the Japanese and the Allies found each other and
launched all accessible aircrafts. The Japanese shot down the Yorktown and the Lexington with bombs
and torpedoes. At the same time, the Allied forces attacked a Japanese carrier but was unable to ...

Advantages Of Pecking Order Theory
2.3 Pecking Order Theory
2.3.1 Introduction of pecking order theory Pecking order theory which is also known as pecking order
model is one of the theories in the capital structure of a firm. According to Cotei, Farhat, and Abugri
(2011), the pecking order theory is based on the idea of asymmetric information between the managers
and investors. Asymmetric information indicates that the managers of the firms or companies know
more about their companies prospects, risks and values than the investors. Brealey, Myers and Allen
(2014) mentioned that the asymmetric information will affect the choice between internal and external
financing as well as between new issues of debt and equity.
Information asymmetry is the main determinants of securities ... Show more content on

According to Hall et al., (2000) and Schmid (2001) (as cited in Paul et al., 2007, p. 10), they found out
that at the stage of development, businesses are informationally opaque which means the information
is not transparent to public. At the same time, the start up firm s assets are often intangible and
knowledge based. So, if compared to the opportunities in the public companies, investors in the start
up work with less historic performance data on which investment judgements can be based. Again, the
researches mentioned that the firms prefer internal to external finance when the external funds are
necessary. It can be clearly understood that the firm prefer debt to equity finance. This hierarchy stems
from information asymmetry between managers and investors with the results that, in attempting to
raise external capital, investors will face an adverse selection problem and demand a premium that
raises the required rate of return on external capital. At this point, the firms are definitely better off
with the internally generated funds. The overall impact of information asymmetry is that external
financing may carry a substantial investment premium (Jovanovic, 1982; Storey, 1994 as cited in Paul
et al., 2007, p. 11). So, debt is preferable to equity finance due to the less risky

Cinderella Differences And Cinderella Compare
Cinderella Compare and Contrast Essay
Many people wonder where all the Cinderella stories originated from? They originated from the most
popular version written in French by Charles Perrault written in 1607. The Little Golden book, the
Grimm brothers version and the 2015 Disney Film version of Cinderella are all taken from the original
story. All Cinderella stories have the same storyline, but there are differences and similarities between
the archetypes and the characters and in the theme in the three versions.
There are lots of archetypes seen throughout all three versions. An archetype that is shown is circles,
which means wholeness and unity. An example of circles from The Little Golden Book is A pumpkin
rose up and swelled into an elegant coach (6). This shows that Cinderella s life is becoming complete
because the coach takes her the ball, which is where she meets the price she marries. Another example
of circles is the sun rise in the morning this is shown in the Grimms version There she had to do hard
work from morning until evening .... ( paragraph 6). This shows wholeness in the morning when the
sunrises being the sun is becoming whole and its a circle. Likewise in the Little Golden Book, the
Fairy Godmother turned the pumpkin into an elegant coach that she road to the ball as projectiled in
the 2015 Disney movie. This shows that her life is coming complete because she has found her destiny
which is the price she meets at the ball.
The theme is all three versions are similar but also have their own differences. The theme in the Little
Golden Book is hard work and kindness pays off. An example of this is Cinderella and the prince lived
happily ever after (12). This shows the them by the hard work Cinderella had to do at home and also it
means that because of all the hard work she got a reward which was to marry the prince and live the
life of her dreams. The theme for the 2015 Disney movie is Have Courage and be kind . This was
shown throughout the movie when Cinderella s mom told her have courage and be kind just before she
died. Also this is seen right before the prince s father died and tells his the same message. Cinderella
acted this way mainly because she was the princess not by blood,

Failed investments in technology may not only cause financial losses, but also lead to dissatisfaction
amongst employees (Venkatesh, 2000). Whilst, there exists a large amount of literature on
technological adoption, most of the research undertaken deals with this in the context of individual
consumers rather than at a firm level. Furthermore, in the case of wearable technology, the main case
study of this particular research, as a current example of a radical technological innovation, there is a
lack of breadth in terms of the literature available, which can be expected from its relative infancy.
Therefore, this literature review will serve as a treatise to not only critically analyse the seminal
research in the broader field of technological innovation and adoption, but also to extrapolate the
information gathered in the context of my own research, to provide a fresh insight on technological
adoption at an organisational level, with a special interest in the future of wearable technology at this
level.
2.1.1 What is technological innovation?
According to Sagar (2013) Technology innovation is the process through which new technologies are

the different types of innovation. The type of innovation mentioned in this research, will refer to
product innovation, as wearable technology

Racist Language In Literature
Racist language within literature is largely controversial, but there are benefits and drawbacks of using
such language within literature. Using racially charged language depicts the historical time and
mindset of people living within a certain time period. Furthermore, it allows readers a chance to learn
about their own culture from the use of racially insensitive language. Though there are benefits to
using such language, there are consequently some drawbacks to allowing the use of such language.
One of the primary drawbacks of allowing the use of racially insensitive language within literature is
that it normalizes the use of such language within the current culture. The Things They Carried often
uses racially insensitive language throughout the story. This language often comes from the American
military and is directed against the Vietnamese. The guy was a little crazy, for sure, but crazy in a
good way, a real daredevil, because he liked the challenge of it, he liked testing himself, just man
against gook (O Brien 44). While this racial slur is extremely offensive and problematic, it is
acceptable to use in the context that this literature is based in because it is striving to accurately depict
a historical time period and the mindset of people living during that time. Furthermore, the use of this
type of language within literature exposes the stains and issues within one s own culture; especially
those of European descent or who classify themselves as Caucasian.

The Nova Scotian provincial government is aware of the situation it s in and has been encouraging all

With the Liberal party s success at the recent elections, there is going to be significant political change
coming to Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia has been suffering economically and socially for the past three decades and the newly
elected government are eager to introduce new solutions to help Nova Scotia recover and prosper.
One of the changes focus on is implementing new regulations that will create a competitive
environment for businesses to thrive in. Also they will be looking to retaining Nova Scotian talent.
The liberal party has also promised to create an economic environment that will stimulate new

Another important part of the Liberal party s platform is their focus on helping Nova Scotian
businesses and entrepreneurs, and also to improve the accountability for government and loans to

Economic Factors: By analyzing the economic factors we can see that Nova Scotia s economic growth
was last among the Canadian provinces over the last two decades when measured as the total

Hospitality In The Odyssey
One of the many points that can support the idea of The Odyssey as an epic poem is that it is a story
that showcases the morals and values that the ancient Greeks held dear. One of the morals that is
implied by Homer in the story is the importance that the ancient Hellenic societies placed on
hospitality and manners. This trait of hospitality is shown throughout the entirety of the story; and is
shown in the section of the story when Telemachus, a prince, treats his father, who has been disguised
as a beggar, with the utmost respect and manners. The story says that Odysseus moved aside, yielding
his couch, but from across the room Telemachus checked him: Friend sit down we ll find another

shining light upon the valued trait of hospitality. Another trait that the ancient greeks valued was
wisdom. This value is used in the Odyssey in multiple instances, but most notably when Odysseus

sense, but after Odysseus has blinded Polyphemus and the other cyclopes come to ask what s wrong,
Polyphemus simply replies with Nobody has ruined me! (9. 317) and the cyclopes leave him be

The Genome project is very significant because it is trying to cure illness and diseases. This project
was first started in 1990 and it lasted till 2003 and it took thirteen years to complete the genetic
sequencing. The discoveries that were made during this project are now being tested and studied to
become more accurate. Furthermore, The genome project is trying to accurately sequence all the
genes, cure and prevent different illnesses that affect people all around the world. Mary Shelly s novel
Frankenstein can apply to the Genome project because of the importance of both projects. Genome
project has to do with figuring out all the gene sequences accurately. The human genome project has

The Importance Of Personal Income Tax In Texas
I think personal income tax in Texas should not become adopted; I feel it is an immoral thing towards
the state. I am against this because taxing a person from their personal income tax may leave them
with less money to pay their bills with more responsibilities. The personal income tax is paid by
people with the money they earn, and it sounds like a corrupted way of taking away their hard earned
wages. It may feel as though we pay personal income tax, but it is not included in our income tax
system. Many people still have to pay federal income tax, because it revenues them in governing its
share over three federal income taxes like; Social Security, Medicare and Unemployment.
An Interviewer named Robert Higgs asked, Governor John Kasich his

The Weaknesses Of Hurricane Katrina
On August 29, 2005, early in the morning the Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast of the United
States, with category 4 and winds of 240 kilometers per hour. Most of its 600,000 residents evacuated
the city by the authorities 48 hours before the disaster and about 20,000 people mostly without
resources were sheltered in the Superdome sports arena. The storm itself did a great deal of damage,
but its aftermath was catastrophic. It produced a massive flooding by levee breaches, many people
complained about the federal government not satisfying the needs of the people that were affected by
the storm plus it killed more than hundreds of hundreds of people. An estimated 300,000 homes were
destroyed leaving more than 118 million cubic yards packed

The Passage Of Time Affects The Memory Of The Holocaust
The passage of time affects our memories of the past by the memory content that we experience in life
which shows us that the more changing experiences we have, the longer subjective duration lasts for.
The bigger and more intense memories have a greater impact on the memories that we tend to hold on
to and remember for lifetime. For example, a weekend spent at home doing our usual routines passes
very quickly. In contrast, a weekend when we travel to a new destination with a friend lasts much
longer or like in novels that we have read when the Nazi regime took over Europe and cause 60
million people to lose their lives. By stating this, I understand that we can recall many different, new,
and catastrophic events. This memory load expands over time. Also, if we look into Maus when
Vladek was once a wealthy man before the war, is brought to having to garner and reserve even the
smallest of items, such as the wrapper from cheese, or the cigarettes from his rations. These items took
on a huge importance to Vladek, and even years later, he feels unable to dispose them cause of what
he had to go through. Vladek also has had a tough time asking for help doing daily chores around the
house because of how his skills and determination proved his survival during the Holocaust. The way
these types of memories help us today by remembering the color and tint of them is quite simple. We
achieve this by learning from our past experiences, good or bad, and understanding the way people

Voter Turnout And Voter Apathy
Voter turnout is commonly regarded as one of the most distinct issues within American politics of the
last century. Though the United States once averaged a turnout rate of 78% of eligible voters in
presidential elections between 1860 and 19001, the average voter turnout of the 21st century has fallen
to around 52%2. The cause of the marked decline throughout the 20th century is often attributed
simply to voter apathy, but the issue is much more complex. Upon analysis, it is clear that a number of
factors have contributed to the decreased rate of voter turnout, of which voter apathy is perhaps the
least influential. The decline in voter turnout in presidential elections from the 19th to the 20th century
is most likely a result of the instatement of the Australian ballot, the structure of the American election
system, and an increased disillusionment with the government over the last century. Until the late 19th
century, voting was not entirely private in the United States, which led to inflated voter turnout in
presidential elections due to the corruption it allowed. Initially, there were very few regulations
imposed on voting. Ballots, for example, could be printed in any size or color and often were printed
so that one could tell to which party it corresponded just by looking at it. A voter s name might be
called out or recorded when he placed a vote. Others could even view the ballot of another until it was
officially cast3. This lack of privacy in casting votes allowed

Essay Nonverbal Communication of the Breakfast Club
Shane Seemann
The Nonverbal Club
The Breakfast Club is such an interesting movie to use with this topic. The wide range of characters
allows for a variety of different interactions. The way we are going to approach this, is to look at each
character and examine the different interactions between.
Let us first start off with some good examples of Physical Appearances and Artifacts, or the personal
objects we use to announce our identities, interests and backgrounds. Our appearance includes
everything from our body type to our hair style to our skin color to eye color to height. (Orbe amp;

The fact that he took drugs and a knife to school tells us that he doesn t care about his education or
feel that it is worth his time. Although, Bender giving his sunglasses to Brian really warmed my heart.
It showed that Bender had kind of taken a liking to Brian. Who probably took a lot of confidence from
it as demonstrated by the relaxed and confident demeanor he had after he put them on. Brian thought
that if he could wear glasses like Bender did, that he would become a little more like him. One last
thing about Artifacts, and I hate writing about the end of the movie in the middle of a paper, but when
Allison takes a patch off of Andy s letterman jacket, it warmed my heart a little. Her taking the patch,
meaning that by taking this artifact from him, no matter the social restrictions, they would always
have the bond they created that day.
Now let us discuss Proxemics. Proxemics, or the way we use space to communicate (Orbe amp;
Bruess, 2005) is shown right away in the film, when Andy sits down next to Claire and away from the
other students. Obviously they are more comfortable sitting next to each other because they are closer
in the social pyramid. About a half an hour into the movie, after the scene where the group starts
whistling, it shows another good example of Proxemics. All of the characters are bundled up in the
front area of the class, all except Allison. She is still sitting in the back of the room. This speaks to her

An Emergency Medicine Physician With Asthma
We spoke with an emergency medicine physician about his experiences with asthma. He told us that
he sees multiple patients for asthma related incidents each day. If children have more moderate or
severe asthma they typically have an asthma action plan and use a peak flow meter to decide whether
they should go to the hospital. He also told us that asthma attacks are very obvious when they come
into the ER so they don t typically do much testing to make sure that it is an asthma attack. Lastly, he
told us they do not diagnose asthma in the ER, but rather refer them back to their primary care
physician after their ER visit.

We spoke with a primary care physician and medical director at Mill City clinic. He sees asthma

how peak flow meters, asthma action plans, and wait and see prescriptions (WASPs) relate and shows
a need for our device in the at home market. He sends peak flow meters home with moderate to severe
asthma patients after creating an asthma action plan. This plan has three main levels: green, yellow,

Essay about Digital Home Convergence
Digital Home Convergence
Overview
As technology and entertainment converge inside the home, major players in various industries are
taking different strategies in planning for the future. The concept of the digital home will likely take
one of two forms: a closed wired entertainment network (PVRs, OnDemand) or an open wireless data
network (web, email, VOIP, IPTV). The closed model is already being offered in many homes across
the country, but as technology advances, the open model will become the standard. It is important to
understand how both technology and entertainment are companies are strategizing to control the

Microsoft
Microsoft is taking several approaches to its digital home strategy. The first thing it did was to release
the Media PC Center in 2002. HP was the first to build a PC set top box to run this software. Other
hardware companies have been working to make the box look more like a television companion than a
PC. Microsoft s goal is to train consumers to consider buying a PC set top box when they are
upgrading their entertainment system. The current problem with this strategy is that the boxes are
priced too high ($1900). In addition, Microsoft is going to incur significant pioneering costs in
creating a market for these new entertainment PCs .
In the event that this set top PC does not become the standard, Microsoft is also creating strategic
alliances with other hardware and broadband companies. They are developing software for Comcast
PVRs and LG DVD recorders. They will receive $400M from SBC for the use of Microsoft TV
Internet Protocol Television Edition. Basically, they are placing bets hoping that one system will
standardize. In the words of a marketing manager at Microsoft, There is no one size fits all choice .

Apple is currently repositioning itself as a media software and consumer electronics company due to
the success of iTunes and the iPod. They were the first company to develop a successful synergy
between consumer electronics and media delivery software. It is not unrealistic to expect some form

Angels in America contains many grueling subplots that focus on each character s individual story as
they intertwine together to form a Tony award winning production. Prior Walter is a homosexual man
living in New York City during the 1980s, and was recently diagnosed with AIDS. At this point in
history, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome was considered taboo, there was no affordable
medication available to the public, and once diagnosed, it was assumed that death was just around the
corner. However, even during his weakest and most undignified moments, Prior Walter never once
tried to force attention on his situation or make others pity his diagnosis. He lived his life as if he was

concerns that not many people have to face at the same time, and he does so with the utmost class and

A Brief History Of United States Mental Health Care Essay
PRELIMINARY LITERATURE REVIEW A brief history of the United States mental health care The
United States has never had an official federal centered approach for mental health care facilities,
entrusting its responsibility to the states throughout the history. The earliest initiatives in this field took
place in the 18th century, when Virginia built its first asylum and Pennsylvania Hospital reserved its
basement to house individuals with mental disorders (Sundararaman, 2009). During the 19th century,
other services were built, but their overall lack of quality was alarming. Even then, researchers and
professionals in the mental health field attempted to implement the principles of the so called public
health, focusing on prevention and early intervention, but the funds were in the hands of the local
governments, which prevented significant advances in this direction. In 1946, President Truman
signed the National Mental Health Act, allowing federal funds for education and research in mental
health. By the time of the Great Depression and the World War II, asylums were in unsustainable
conditions and traumatized veterans were returning home needing psychiatric attention. Also in a
federal extent, Congress passed the Mental Health Study Act in 1955, establishing a commission to
check policies and propose reforms in psychiatric treatments. Around that time the
deinstitutionalization movement started changing the mental health picture. In 1963, the Mental
Health Community Act

elthammyo.com.au Myotherapy for Improved Blood Circulation
Myotherapy is a combination of massage and other techniques that relaxes and heals the body in a
number of different ways, including increasing blood circulation. The myotherapist analyses each
patient before taking action to ensure that he or she works on the specific trigger points that will
alleviate the patient s tension, pain or other issue. At times, patients have an injury that requires
attention to speed healing in the area in order the patients to be able to return their normal lives. Our
topic today is on the fact that you can rely on myotherapy for improved blood circulation.
How Myotherapy Increases Blood Flow
As the myotherapist massages the necessary trigger points, the muscles release their tension, and this
in turn relaxes the veins and arteries that transport the blood to and from the heart and other parts of
the body. The therapist is then able to move the blood through the area with his or her ... Show more

Violence And Nihilism In Cormac Mccarthy s Blood Meridian
Within Cormac McCarthy s Blood Meridian lies a chaotic, lawless wasteland corrupted with violence
and nihilism. This violence and nihilism, however, is not limited to just to the landscape, but to its
inhabitants as well, transforming them into merciless killers with no regard for the fragility that comes
along with being human. Throughout Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy provides an image of the
American Southwest during the 1850s, one that is of savagery and lawlessness. The entirety of the
plot focuses on the kid , viewed as the main protagonist throughout the book, although he doesn t
emerge as such until the climax. Violence, unjustified murder, and betrayal are all part of the kid s
nature, a built in instinct that awakens once he joins Glanton s Gang, a cruel group of scalpers who
complete their task for money, then entertainment, and finally simply out of built in drive and
experience. The kid and his companions act as a catalyst for the hatred, violence, and greed rife in
Blood Meridian s landscape. Much of the violence that McCarthy portrays is simply violence for its
own sake, and is perpetuated throughout the plotline as a way of life. McCarthy s Blood Meridian
focuses on a theme of nihilism through this violence. The violence for its own sake, or senseless
violence , lines up well with this idea perpetuated throughout. According to Merriam Webster
dictionary, nihilism is defined as the rejection of all religious and moral principles, often in the

Choices with Regard to the Process of Consumption
Consumer choice refers to the decisions consumers make when considering the products and services
they want to purchase. Presently, in this post industrial society, many analysts believe that social strata
in many parts of the world have led to the emergence of consumer society (Smart, B 2014). Reasons
for this are because individuals are being portrayed as having a wide range of choice as they are being
presented with a wide range of products and services.
As Ellis at al. (2012) notes, privatization of production and distribution of goods and services have
expanded the way consumers can access them, and therefore, there are increased consumer choices.
However, there are arguments that in some cases, consumers have not been provided with adequate
positions to exercise their true choices on goods and services and therefore, which is leading them to
make passive choices in regards their process of consumption. Some arguments assert that consumers
are becoming more and more actively involved in their buying and consumption processes, especially
in this age when people are more enlightened.

Plutarch, coming from an upper class family, was able to get a good education and find a purpose to

Although it may have been an intellectual inspiration, much of Greece was still barren and the
economy was far from perfect. The country suffered from uniform poverty and the collapse of
autonomy6. From the decades of warring came a population on the downfall and a great decline in
merit. Whereas at its summit the Hellenic states could boast handsome temples, theatres, halls, and
palaces ... they found their monies being spent in maintaining wars and in offsetting a growing

were Corinth and Patras. People were not concerned with anything but survival. Ancient beliefs of
morality and plain old goodness were lost. There was a need for someone, anyone, to turn this awful
trend around. Enter Plutarch.
The year AD 46 brought the new thinker into the world. Greece had experienced almost 250 years of

Finally, I believe that same sex marriage is the union of people who love each other according to the
liberal position. The conservative position gives power to the state government to decide whether to

religion, or gender, they should be able to decide for themselves if they want to get married. The
government has no right to infringe on people s rights to freedom and the pursuit of happiness. If
marriage makes a couple happy, they should have the right to get married. The conservative position
on this topic uses the argument that it goes against moral and religious beliefs. In a society that is
constantly changing its views on the ideal american family, more and more people are becoming
accepting of same sex marriage. Although traditionally, same sex marriage was extremely frowned
upon, we are a nation of progress, and should change our opinions and develop into a nation of

Unconventional Computer Aided Design
Tailoring the Future of Fashion Industry
1. Introduction
1.1 Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Computer aided design (CAD), also known as computer aided design and drafting (CADD), generally
means the use of computer technology for the purpose of design and design documentation. CAD can
be used to design curves, figures or solids in two dimensional (2D) or three dimensional (3D) spaces
and it also provides graphics showing the overall appearances of products. Besides, CAD software is
able to assist designers in creation, analysis, modification and optimization of design, and it also offers
designers input tools so that they can easily streamline whole design process, including idea
generation, sketching and manufacturing processes.
The applications of CAD software are almost endless: designing machines, creating the structure of
buildings, or creating cars and airplanes. CAD software are also widely used in advertising, technical

Florida, a treasure trove of many, many species of animals and diverse wildlife. How many of those,
Florida species are actually native to Florida though? If you walk outside you will probably see lizards
everywhere, you know, the brown ones. Well, what if I told you, that they are not actually native to
Florida? Those lizards are called Brown Anoles, and they are actually from Cuba and the Bahamas.
This is just one example of the many invasive species, which compete with Florida s native species for
food, resources and territories everyday. A few more examples of invasive species that are harmful to
our wildlife are the Cuban tree frog, which is a threat to not only other frogs but toads and lizards as
well, the Burmese python, which is invading the everglades, and the air potato, which is slowly

Independent contractors win out best in sole proprietorships because they pay the basic needs, and that
s their investment, and they see the profits, while the company eats the loss. Bread vendors are a good
example of this. They make money on the bread they sell, but don t lose money on the staled bread
they return. This applies to independent contractors that serve as drivers for those companies. These
drivers supply their own trucks and insurance, they only do a delivery service and make out the orders.
The drivers are not responsible for the losses on bread not sold. They are given a percentage on bread
sold. They file their own personal taxes and are not liable for any company assets or liabilities. In
closing, decision making on which LLC to be associated with is based on size and the amount of
interest or investments in a company. Every company is different and their classification will be based
on the operations of the business and its overall needs some require different financial investments,

Rene Descartes Meditations on First Philosophy
In Rene Descartes, Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes does and experiment with wax to try to
prove that things actually exist in this world. This essay is going to prove how we can tell that things
actually exist and what can perceive the wax. Rene Descartes starts off with a description of the wax
so he can prove to us the changes that will happen throughout his experiment.
Let us take, for instance, this piece of wax. It has been taken quite recently from the honeycomb; it has
not yet lost all the honey flavor. It retains some of the scent of the flowers from which it was collected.
Its color, shape, and size are manifest. It is hard and cold; it is easy to touch. If you rap on it with your

He then tells us his final perspective on how he perceives the wax. It remains then for me to concede
that I do not grasp what this wax is through the imagination; rather, I perceive it through the mind
alone. (Descartes, 22) He ends his argument on how he perceives the wax with telling us that it is not
our imagination that grasps all of the perceptions of the wax, but the mind that does it. Rene Descartes
just proved to us that our imagination is not able to grasp all of the perceptions of the wax but the
mind is. After proving that theory he suddenly starts to doubt his proof. But meanwhile I marvel at
how prone my mind is to errors. (Descartes, 22) He states that his mind is prone to making errors. For
example; For we say we see the wax itself, if it is present, and not that we judge it to be present from
its color or shape. (Descartes, 22) He thinks a mistake our minds make is when we judge that it is wax
by just looking at it and not paying any attention to any of the forms. For this reason he is claiming
that he still is not sure that the mind can actually perceive the wax due to it making mistakes. Back to
what Rene Descartes said earlier about the imagination not being able to grasp all of what we need to
perceive about the wax. He told us the imagination was unable to grasp it all but now

Introduction/Purpose The facility I visited was called De Palma Terrance and it was located in
Placentia, California. De Palma Terrance is a facility that has been providing senior care for seniors
for over 25 years in Orange County. De Palma Terrance does offer senior living within the complex
for those who desire it, but it is also a senior center where seniors around the community can freely
visit and attend health classes. The class I attended is called Health/Wellness Trivia and is part of the
Older Adults Program (OAP). OAP is one of the programs that is under of the Lifeskills Education

The class consisted of mainly strength training, long periods of stretching and short cardio. It was
essential that the activities was mainly concentrated on increasing leg strength and improving balance.
Strengthen the bones will help build bone thickness and help lessen the danger of breaks/fractures.
Balance, coordination and mobility will help older adults from falling. Older adults are at high risk of
falling and this can cause serious injuries such as hip fractures, head traumas and even death. The
class also helped older adults educate themselves on preventive strategies from falling as well.
Major Health Components Covered In Class The two major health components covered in this class
was physical health and social health. Physical health refers to the way that the body function. This
definitely consist of regular exercise. Since the class was mainly consisted of strength training
exercises, it gave older adults strength and energy. This can play a major role in preventing some
illnesses. Social health is the quality of one s relationship with his/her friends and family. I feel like
the instructor was also trying to get older adults to work together during the exercises. I saw older
adults helping each other out when it came to stretching. This would be a good class for older adults to
attend if they wanted to meet new people. The

Ethnography of the American Flag Essay
In America there is a religious totem held above all else. It is a piece of square cloth with thirteen red
and white lines and 50 stars that they place on a pole over their heads. They honor their flag in almost
every aspect of their lives. They are placed at national shrines, cathedrals, outside homes and inside of
every classroom. Every the morning in schools all across the nation children are required to pray to

Our Flag, the symbol of freedom for over 216, 000,000 citizens of our great land, and the banner
under which countless millions have given their last measure of devotion in wars to protect our
freedom, will never be forgotten. It is for us the living, in strength and unity, to love and respect our
Flag. As we remember our Flag, we know that it represents the living country and it is a precious
possession (Flag Etiquette).
The leader then commences to lead the audience in the pledge of allegiance and pray to God to keep
our nation safe. The national anthem is then played and the ritual is completed (Flag Etiquette).
During the ceremony the power is extremely hierarchical and resembles Mauss sacrifice circle with
the flag in the center followed by the ceremony leader in the next circle then the thirteen helpers in the
next circle and all the observers in the last circle. Even though this ritual is extremely sacred there is
no ordered structure of who exactly can perform the ritual. In the United States Flag every citizen has
the right to honor and retire their own flag; the U.S. flag code does not authorize any particular
organization with the duty of retiring unfit flags. Any one person or group can do it. But while it is
legal for anyone to retire the flag it is usually done through a military organization or boy/girl scouts
of America. The only stipulation on the burning of the flag ceremony is that it must take place in a

Environmental Policy Essay
The Trump administration has taken the initiative to halt and revert recent environmental regulations,
which were heavily championed by the previous administration. In order to comprehend the direction
of the new administration, this paper will review a couple of the arguments made by proponents who
are for revoking environmental regulations. Additionally, arguments made by the opposition will be
reviewed. Given the dimensionality of the issue, this paper predominantly spotlights the use of coal.

Additionally, some companies relocate to a different country with less stringent regulations. On March
28, 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to have the Clean Power Plan reviewed,
which would have closed hundreds of coal fired power plants, and frozen construction of new plants
(Davenport 2017). The coal industry is one of those industries being significantly affected by
regulations attempting to address controversial environmental issues. According the National Mining
Association (NMA), the Energy Information Administration (EIA) found that by nullifying the Clean
Power Plan would preserve 240 million tons of annual coal production, saving 27,700 high wage
mining jobs and an additional 99,849 jobs throughout the supply chain (NMA 2017). Furthermore, the
NMA forecasts the Clean Power Plan would harm the wider economy, including households and
businesses. If the policy goes through, the typical annual household electricity bills in 2020 would be
more than a third higher than they were in 2012, or an estimated $680 per family (NMA 2017). Such
an increase on the electric bill can be devastating for low income families struggling to make ends
meet. The negative stigma surrounding coal has also clouded the public s perception, resulting voters
to be misinformed about the industry. Only nine percent of voters are aware coal fueled power plants

Nancy Drew Secret In The Old Attic Analysis

Did you expect the conclusion/culprit to be who/what it was? If so, what was some evidence. If not,
what led you to believe otherwise?
I expected Bushy Trott to be the culprit for the fabric factory robbery of the recipe for the fabric
because he had worked at both factories and knew the recipes for the fabric making. I half suspected
that he plagiarized the music because there were a lot possible people who they thought could be
committing the crime and the evidence did not lead directly to Bushy Trott. Bushy Trott was their first
suspect. For the stolen music they knew that it was him, because the composer s name on the radio

In the TV show CSI there are fingerprints everywhere, but as we know from our studies not all the
time they get a perfect finger print and it is harder to identify who the fingerprint belongs to, in
fictional crimes the fingerprint can be identified to someone easily. In real life It takes years to bring a
crime to court. In my Nancy Drew books they are the original so they are old and they didn t have
technology back then. In my book teenagers were dealing with a crime but in real life they cannot
actually be real detectives but Nancy Drew solves all her own cases and once she solves it she notified
police and they go to jail. At the Police Interpretive center we were taught to never j a conclusions and
think you are done without any evidence. Nancy Drew knew she had to get evidence before accusing
someone but she just jumped to the conclusion that it was Bushy Trott before finding evidence, like
lots of people jumped to conclusion in our crime about the happy mart crime before we actually knew
who it was. In the Nancy Drew series she always gets kidnapped then she breaks free, but I wonder if
that ever happened in real life you probably wouldn t escape. I don t understand why there are so
many crimes and mysteries in River Heights (Where Nancy Lives) River Heights is a small town so I
don t think that s very realistic. Personally I think fiction crimes are way different to real crimes

Theme Of Romantic Idealism In The Great Gatsby
Nick Carraway, the narrator of the story, has returned from war and restlessness in the West, and goes
East to work and for living. He reveals the story of Jay Gatsby in flashbacks, his neighbor of next
door, as he learns throughout the story. The nine chapters of the book develops around seven figures or
parties merged with flashbacks.
Immediately after narrator Nick moves to the West Egg, he first visits Daisy Buchanan, his second
cousin, and her legally wed husband Tom Buchanan, a fellow Yale graduate as Nick, for a dinner. This
is where Nick meets Jordan Baker whom is Daisy s friend from the Louisville, who reveals to Nick

Gatsby couldn t obtain Daisy because he didn t have that kind of money. The Great Gatsby is actually
Fitzgerald s indictment of the so called American Dream. However for Nick, Gatsby s passing
represents the destruction of the dream. The novel also have American mythology based on West and
East. Nick became disillusioned by the East and returns to the Midwest, where he termed it to be the
warm, center of the world. (pg 11).
Fitzgerald clearly showed class difference throughout his settings. The valley of ashes is a place to be
driven through on the way by the characters from both West and East Egg. It s here that Myrtle is run
down like a dog (pg 167) by Daisy.
Careless drivers became a metaphor for the demoralised world of privilege and wealth lived by the
likes of Buchanan s. Earlier, Nick accused Jordan of being a rotten driver, followed by two drunks
getting into an accident at Gatsby s parties, and, finally, Daisy killed Myrtle with a car and ran away.
The Great Gatsby can be interpreted as an advice or warning to Fitzgerald s generation and also
upcoming generations. Beware of chasing that orgiastic future with too much passion, where it can
destroy you, just as it did

Over the next three months the United States, along with Cuban Rebels waged war against the Spanish forces in hopes of returning the Cuban lands back to its people. President McKinley who was pressured into war by yellow press, sent American forces into battle which ultimately led to the birth of a western hemispheric super power, the United States. The sinking of the USS Maine, the use of yellow press journalism, and the national uproar and motivation is what drove the Americans to victory. Valeriano Weyler, the Spanish General in Cuba, started a campaign called Subjugation or Death. This bloody campaign was Spain s attempt to force the local people into slavery. Filled with concentration camps, burning villages and murdering Cubans, this campaign took the lives of over 200,000 Cuban people. Since Spain was aware that the US had sympathy towards the Cuban rebels this endangered the lives of American citizens living there. The USS Maine was built in 1888 and was seen as advanced American battleship modeled after advanced European designs. Vatican II And The Church On the eve of Vatican II, the Church struggled with the maximalist interpretation of the two dogmas; at the same time, Vatican II took up the concerns of the minority bishops as a bridge in order to discuss further the compatibility of the dogma of infallibility with a communion ecclesiology. The work of Vatican II has remained a building site, whose attempts to end Vatican centralization by means of its teachings on collegiality. The challenges that Vatican II needs to deal with are two major concerns: to rebel against centralization, and to bring the church out of its ghetto into the modern world. Lumen Gentium offers very little attention to the two concerns, and the appearance of the phrase hierarchical communion weakens the idea of communion without actually saying anything new. After Vatican II, Pottmeyer observes, The fear of a shared governance by bishops had remained. For example, in 1965, Pope Paul VI established the synod of bishops and published the norms for its operation. This form of permanent participation of the bishops in the leadership of the church also made many of the council fathers disappointed. According to Oestergaard, the MQ 1B Predator drone has a range of 777 miles and a maximum flight time of 40 hours while carrying two Hellfire missiles. The MQ 9A Reaper drone has a range of 1,151 miles and a maximum flight time of 30 hours. Of those, only one, the American cleric Anwar al Awlaki, who joined Al Qaeda in Yemen and was killed in 2011, was identified and deliberately targeted (Shane, Zenko 3). Shane is correct when he says that drones should not target Americans, but he fails to mention why they were targeted. These eight Americans were killed because, they were engaged in hostile activity towards the United States. Awlaki was a part of Al Qaeda and was actively plotting to take down the United States. The other seven Americans were not innocent, these people were killed in the blast of drone strikes that were targeting enemy combatants. They were not hostages, but they were still in the immediate vicinity of they hostiles. The other seven were just like Awlaki, they were there to join one of the terrorist groups we are at war with. That is the only way that those citizens were that close to those enemies. The second argument against the use of drones is that drone pilots are at risk of developing psychological disorders. Agency Costs and Financial Decision-Making Agency Costs and Financial Decision Making The Concept An agency relationship is a contract under which one or more persons (the principal(s)) engage another person (the agent) to perform some service on their behalf which involves delegating some decision making authority to the agent. If both parties to the relationship are utility maximizers and they may have divergent goals and objectives, and there is good reason to believe that the agent will not always act in the best interests of the principal (Jensen, Michael C., and William H. In the majority of large publicly traded corporations, agency conflicts are potentially quite significant because the firm s managers generally own only a small percentage of the common stock. Therefore, shareholder wealth maximization could be subordinated to an assortment of other managerial goals. For instance, managers may have a fundamental objective of maximizing the size of the firm. By creating a large, rapidly growing firm, executives increase their own status, create more opportunities for lower and middle level managers and salaries, and enhance their job security because an unfriendly takeover is less likely. As a result, incumbent management may pursue diversification at the expense of the shareholders who can easily diversify their individual portfolios simply by buying shares in other companies. These methods, however, are effective only if shareholders can observe all of the actions taken by managers. A moral hazard problem, whereby agents take unobserved actions in their own self interests, originates because it is infeasible for shareholders to monitor all managerial actions. However, those who spend their lives experiencing the concept of the border, acknowledge that the U.S. Mexico Border is more than just a line. It s an epicenter of; historical, political, social, economic, and cultural affairs that influence people on both countries. In this essay, I will be discussing the endogeneity effect between the border and its people and how I influence this phenomenon. Historically speaking, the endogeneity effect between the border and its people began in 1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and it wasn t until the Gadsden Purchase of 1854 that gave the border its current form. In the article entitled Living on the Border: A Wound That Will Not Heal, the author, Norma E. Cantu states that the pain and joy of the borderlands come from a wound that will not heal and yet is forever healing. Said quote summarizes Cantu s observations that were influenced by the creation of the U.S. Mexico border. One of most talked about issues to those who live in on the U.S. Mexico Border is the economy. The economic relationship between the United States and Mexico began in the colonial era, but it was not formalized and strengthen until the North American Free Trade Agreement was enacted and ratified by both countries, with the addition of Canada, in 1993. During the week of May 4 8, 1942, the first air sea battle in history took place as I watched from below. Japan was looking to control the Coral Sea by taking all of New Guinea and the Solomon Islands to remove all of the Allied bases between Japan and Australia. They also wished to take over and destroy the American navy s aircraft carriers since they were not able to do so in the Battle at Pearl Harbor. On the 3rd of May, the Japanese occupied Tulagi island and set up a seaplane base. The next day, the Allied forces, led by Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher, launched strikes against Tulagi. The attack eliminated the Japanese use of the base which sparked the beginning of this battle. The Yorktown sunk a Japanese destroyer and five merchant ships and join the Lexington later that day. May 6th, Australia spotted the Japanese but failed to shoot it down. They both continued to search for each other unsuccessfully due to partial visibility in the area of operations. Admiral Fletcher decided to separate his forces so that one was more susceptible to Japanese air attack without being under any coverage. Although, neither American force was successful in finding the Japanese forces, the Japanese aircraft was able to find and sink several U.S. ships and aircrafts. According to Cotei, Farhat, and Abugri (2011), the pecking order theory is based on the idea of asymmetric information between the managers and investors. Asymmetric information indicates that the managers of the firms or companies know more about their companies prospects, risks and values than the investors. At the same time, the start up firm s assets are often intangible and knowledge based. So, if compared to the opportunities in the public companies, investors in the start up work with less historic performance data on which investment judgements can be based. Again, the researches mentioned that the firms prefer internal to external finance when the external funds are necessary. It can be clearly understood that the firm prefer debt to equity finance. This hierarchy stems from information asymmetry between managers and investors with the results that, in attempting to raise external capital, investors will face an adverse selection problem and demand a premium that raises the required rate of return on external capital. At this point, the firms are definitely better off with the internally generated funds. The overall impact of information asymmetry is that external financing may carry a substantial investment premium (Jovanovic, 1982; Storey, 1994 as cited in Paul et al., 2007, p. 11). They originated from the most popular version written in French by Charles Perrault written in 1607. The Little Golden book, the Grimm brothers version and the 2015 Disney Film version of Cinderella are all taken from the original story. All Cinderella stories have the same storyline, but there are differences and similarities between the archetypes and the characters and in the theme in the three versions. There are lots of archetypes seen throughout all three versions. An archetype that is shown is circles, which means wholeness and unity. An example of circles from The Little Golden Book is A pumpkin rose up and swelled into an elegant coach (6). This shows that Cinderella s life is becoming complete because the coach takes her the ball, which is where she meets the price she marries. Another example of circles is the sun rise in the morning this is shown in the Grimms version There she had to do hard work from morning until evening .... ( paragraph 6). This shows wholeness in the morning when the sunrises being the sun is becoming whole and its a circle. Likewise in the Little Golden Book, the Fairy Godmother turned the pumpkin into an elegant coach that she road to the ball as projectiled in the 2015 Disney movie. This shows that her life is coming complete because she has found her destiny which is the price she meets at the ball. Using racially charged language depicts the historical time and mindset of people living within a certain time period. Furthermore, it allows readers a chance to learn about their own culture from the use of racially insensitive language. Though there are benefits to using such language, there are consequently some drawbacks to allowing the use of such language. One of the primary drawbacks of allowing the use of racially insensitive language within literature is that it normalizes the use of such language within the current culture. The Things They Carried often uses racially insensitive language throughout the story. This language often comes from the American military and is directed against the Vietnamese. The guy was a little crazy, for sure, but crazy in a good way, a real daredevil, because he liked the challenge of it, he liked testing himself, just man against gook (O Brien 44). While this racial slur is extremely offensive and problematic, it is acceptable to use in the context that this literature is based in because it is striving to accurately depict a historical time period and the mindset of people living during that time. This trait of hospitality is shown throughout the entirety of the story; and is shown in the section of the story when Telemachus, a prince, treats his father, who has been disguised as a beggar, with the utmost respect and manners. The Passage Of Time Affects The Memory Of The Holocaust The passage of time affects our memories of the past by the memory content that we experience in life which shows us that the more changing experiences we have, the longer subjective duration lasts for. The bigger and more intense memories have a greater impact on the memories that we tend to hold on to and remember for lifetime. For example, a weekend spent at home doing our usual routines passes very quickly. In contrast, a weekend when we travel to a new destination with a friend lasts much longer or like in novels that we have read when the Nazi regime took over Europe and cause 60 million people to lose their lives. By stating this, I understand that we can recall many different, new, and catastrophic events. This memory load expands over time. • 25. Voter Turnout And Voter Apathy Voter turnout is commonly regarded as one of the most distinct issues within American politics of the last century. Though the United States once averaged a turnout rate of 78% of eligible voters in presidential elections between 1860 and 19001, the average voter turnout of the 21st century has fallen to around 52%2. The cause of the marked decline throughout the 20th century is often attributed simply to voter apathy, but the issue is much more complex. Upon analysis, it is clear that a number of factors have contributed to the decreased rate of voter turnout, of which voter apathy is perhaps the least influential. The decline in voter turnout in presidential elections from the 19th to the 20th century is most likely a result of the instatement of the Australian ballot, the structure of the American election system, and an increased disillusionment with the government over the last century. Until the late 19th century, voting was not entirely private in the United States, which led to inflated voter turnout in presidential elections due to the corruption it allowed. Initially, there were very few regulations imposed on voting. Ballots, for example, could be printed in any size or color and often were printed so that one could tell to which party it corresponded just by looking at it. A voter s name might be called out or recorded when he placed a vote. Others could even view the ballot of another until it was officially cast3. This lack of privacy in casting votes allowed ... Angels In America Character Analysis Angels in America contains many grueling subplots that focus on each character s individual story as they intertwine together to form a Tony award winning production. Prior Walter is a homosexual man living in New York City during the 1980s, and was recently diagnosed with AIDS. At this point in history, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome was considered taboo, there was no affordable medication available to the public, and once diagnosed, it was assumed that death was just around the corner. However, even during his weakest and most undignified moments, Prior Walter never once tried to force attention on his situation or make others pity his diagnosis. He lived his life as if he was completely healthy and was not face to face with death. • 31. A Brief History Of United States Mental Health Care Essay PRELIMINARY LITERATURE REVIEW A brief history of the United States mental health care The United States has never had an official federal centered approach for mental health care facilities, entrusting its responsibility to the states throughout the history. The earliest initiatives in this field took place in the 18th century, when Virginia built its first asylum and Pennsylvania Hospital reserved its basement to house individuals with mental disorders (Sundararaman, 2009). During the 19th century, other services were built, but their overall lack of quality was alarming. Even then, researchers and professionals in the mental health field attempted to implement the principles of the so called public health, focusing on prevention and early intervention, but the funds were in the hands of the local governments, which prevented significant advances in this direction. In 1946, President Truman signed the National Mental Health Act, allowing federal funds for education and research in mental health. By the time of the Great Depression and the World War II, asylums were in unsustainable conditions and traumatized veterans were returning home needing psychiatric attention. Also in a federal extent, Congress passed the Mental Health Study Act in 1955, establishing a commission to check policies and propose reforms in psychiatric treatments. Around that time the deinstitutionalization movement started changing the mental health picture. In 1963, the Mental Health Community Act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This violence and nihilism, however, is not limited to just to the landscape, but to its inhabitants as well, transforming them into merciless killers with no regard for the fragility that comes along with being human. Throughout Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy provides an image of the American Southwest during the 1850s, one that is of savagery and lawlessness. The entirety of the plot focuses on the kid , viewed as the main protagonist throughout the book, although he doesn t emerge as such until the climax. Violence, unjustified murder, and betrayal are all part of the kid s nature, a built in instinct that awakens once he joins Glanton s Gang, a cruel group of scalpers who complete their task for money, then entertainment, and finally simply out of built in drive and experience. The kid and his companions act as a catalyst for the hatred, violence, and greed rife in Blood Meridian s landscape. Much of the violence that McCarthy portrays is simply violence for its own sake, and is perpetuated throughout the plotline as a way of life. Presently, in this post industrial society, many analysts believe that social strata in many parts of the world have led to the emergence of consumer society (Smart, B 2014). Reasons for this are because individuals are being portrayed as having a wide range of choice as they are being presented with a wide range of products and services. As Ellis at al. (2012) notes, privatization of production and distribution of goods and services have expanded the way consumers can access them, and therefore, there are increased consumer choices. However, there are arguments that in some cases, consumers have not been provided with adequate positions to exercise their true choices on goods and services and therefore, which is leading them to make passive choices in regards their process of consumption. Some arguments assert that consumers are becoming more and more actively involved in their buying and consumption processes, especially in this age when people are more enlightened. Arguments for Active and Passive Consumption The Concept of Number of Options Iyengar and Leper (2000) state, that current psychological theories confirm that individuals become motivated when making choices individually. This applies to independent contractors that serve as drivers for those companies. These drivers supply their own trucks and insurance, they only do a delivery service and make out the orders. It has been taken quite recently from the honeycomb; it has not yet lost all the honey flavor. It retains some of the scent of the flowers from which it was collected. (Descartes, 22) He ends his argument on how he perceives the wax with telling us that it is not our imagination that grasps all of the perceptions of the wax, but the mind that does it. Rene Descartes just proved to us that our imagination is not able to grasp all of the perceptions of the wax but the mind is. After proving that theory he suddenly starts to doubt his proof. But meanwhile I marvel at how prone my mind is to errors. (Descartes, 22) He states that his mind is prone to making errors. For example; For we say we see the wax itself, if it is present, and not that we judge it to be present from its color or shape. (Descartes, 22) He thinks a mistake our minds make is when we judge that it is wax by just looking at it and not paying any attention to any of the forms. For this reason he is claiming that he still is not sure that the mind can actually perceive the wax due to it making mistakes.
